JIMI HENDRIX Drummer MITCH MITCHELL Found Dead In Portland Hotel - Nov. 12, 2008

KGW.com reports that THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE's drummer Mitch Mitchell was found dead in a downtown Portland hotel Wednesday.

The Multnomah County Medical Examiner's office said 62-year-old Mitch Mitchell likely died of natural causes. His body was found just after 3 a.m. at the Benson Hotel.

An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday.

Mitchell had been playing with the Experience Hendrix tour that just made a stop in Portland at the Schnitz last Friday.

Horrible news, one of the greatest drummers IMO.

Now Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell are both gone. The whole original band is gone now. How sad. Henrdrix was a lucky man...he had the greatest band in history, I think.

Mitch was indeed an amazing drummer!
He was perfect for the Hendrix power trio setting and I'm sure an example for lots of drummers later on. Very sad....

Well, they are all very different players.
However, although I do like RR more than Hendrix, Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding put all of the Ozzy drummers and bassists to shame, with the exception of Randy Castillo and Geezer Butler.

I got to jam with Mitch for a few hours in the late 80s while Jack Bruce was looking for guitarists and Ginger Baker was with Black Sabbath recording.
I had no idea who he or they where, he was playing around with Ginger's drum set ( i had forgotten his name while we jammed too) , he was switching lefty to righty which confused me, i liked to be on the left side of the stage cause i thought it was the lead guitar players side

Jack Bruce also blew my mind with his fretless, all i knew when i was there was that they where some old blues players looking for a young guy and i was next door with a another band when they invited me into there room, we where at Rocket Studio NYC, it closed down years ago., after jaming we sat around at the lounge,

Mitch asked me if i knew Hendrix songs and i told him i was trying to do different things which he liked allot he said, he smoked a splif with Edgar Winter and we ran back into the room again but instead played Black Sabbath tracks so we played War Pigs and Children of the Grave.
After all that time he freaked me out telling me he played with Jimi!, i thought he was a a helping hand (which is what he called himself) while filling in for Ginger Baker, what a laugh, i did not believe him, in fact i was like 20 years old and so naive i did not know who Jimi's drummer was anyway, but it did not matter, the guy was allot of fun and had more energy then i did, i was kind of bummed out over a girl and he was telling me to just play guitar LOUD, sort of worked out to cheer me up until i left.

Since i am a nobody who likes to do his own thing whether it works out or not i just wonder when i will read stories other guitarists have to share like this, its a crazy world man, i love it.
