Need Honest Opinions

Okay, so my daughter is 15 now and rarely speaks to me... she lives in Southern California and I'm in Seattle, so we also rarely see one another. She sent me a list of CDs she'd like for Christmas and I know little about
any of this music (now I know what my dad must have felt like when I asked for Blue Oyster Cult records for Christmas!)...
Could anyone give me honest opinions of these bands (what they are like, as opposed to "they suck" - Frank, I'm sure you'll know ALL of these bands

):
From First to last
Jack Off Jill
OTEP
Paramore
Banes in Toyland
Scarling
James D Stark
The Used
Taking Back Sunday
Sugarcult
The Subways
The Sounds
Simple Plan
Roisin Murphy
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
The Pink Spiders
Once Over
Nine Inch Nails
My Chemical Romance
Morningwood
HIM
Garbage
The Fratellis
The Fray
Flogging Molly
Amanda Palmer
Dope
I left Marilyn Manson off the list because I
refuse to promote listening to him by
anyone - amazingly, for the first time in 10 years, my ex-wife and I agreed on something: Marilyn Manson sucks and our daughter shouldn't listen to him
Any help would be appreciated.

Flogging Molly is a really fun band! It's Irish Punk rock. I met them at the House of Blues here and they're all really nice.

The Fray is basically Cold Play Part 2.
The Used's singer dated Kelly Osbourne for a while and after they broke up, I remember that Ozzy wanted to break the guy's arm.

Him is ok, I suppose. A lilttle too goth for me.
My Chemical Romance has a really obnoxious singer and I don't like any of their songs really. Their lead guitar player is actually really talented (read in GW that he was a big RR fan growing up, surprise surprise!) but he still can't bring the band to write some good jams.
And NIN I'm not really into so can't help ya there.
And then all the other bands, I've not heard of.

Im SO helpful, aren't I.

Thank you both for your input...
Alex, that is exactly what I needed to know - until I get to know my daughter a bit better I want to stay away from anything too dark.
Nicole, thanks for the info... it sounds you might be a bit too old to know some of this music.

Thanks alot Paul, you just made me antique! The only band I've
even heard of is NIN

And the only song I like by them is " Hurt".
But I prefer Johnny Cashs' version over theirs.

Yeah, I'm feeling pretty antique as well... I don't want to be a dad who says, "I don't like your damn music," but at the same time, I don't want her listening to something too questionable.

I've got to quit practicing guitar and start practicing typing! That should read
BABES in Toyland...
I watched that Paramore video and I see what she likes about them. My daughter's a redhead (and
very proud of it) who wants to be a singer, so Hayley Williams is probably here hero!
Frank, I knew you had daughters who might help ya out, but if I can't be a smart alec, what's the point of talking to you?
Thanks everyone, this is helping... wonder what zmack would think of this stuff

Roisin Murphy - Dance / Electronica / all out kookiness!! Shes great, I have most of her Moloko work previously and fully recommend her for a little balance to whats on the list there. Most of those from what I can tell has an Emo / Punk / Industrial vibe to it, so Im guessing your daughter is feeling more than a little angsty at the mo!! Not that theres anything wrong with that

Garbage are OK they did a theme tune for a Bond movie and played with Sabbath at the new year's eve show in 1998.

ive not heard of most of those bands, most of them sound like punk/rock acts and a couple of them may be indy but im not sure.
Paramore - they seem ok
HIM - i highly rate them, they often get branded emo cos all their songs are about love and heartache etc.

Garbage - pretty good band by all means the singer has a good voice on her. this is from the tv coverge of download
