What a terrible tragedy! Not only for their president but also the 96 others passengers in the plane crash.
Prayers sent their way for sure.
They say it is the biggest national tragedy since the world war.

I for some reason don't think this was an accident.

The awfull irony is that they were going to Poland to accept a formal appology/honouring of the Polish military leaders murdered by Stalin, at the time the Soviets blamed the Nazi's who at the time went to great lenghs to make the world know that they the Nazi's wouldn't have done such a thing (more irony).
The fact that all 70 years later the leader of a free Poland dies on his way to comemorate murdered occupied Poles is beyond irony, you couldn't write this kind of outcome if it was a book a publisher wouldn't pring it.

I wonder if we ever will know the truth.
The plane was adviced to move to another airport because of the fog.
Story goes despite the negative advice the pilots tried to land 4 times...... Why didn't they move to another airport? Fact is they were already late.... Maybe they were put under pressure to land anyways. (by the president?) If so the cockpitvoice recorder probably can tell. Keep in mind the investigation is in hands of the sovjets.... If true the president insisted to land anyways will they ever tell? Will the pilots get the blame or the president?
I wonder if the old communism mentality maybe plays a role here too? A dutch pilot wouldn't lose his job if he would have flown to another airport after been adviced by the traffic control to do so. If nothing else he probably would tell the president: you run the country,
I run this plane. Will be interesting if the converstations of the cockpitvoice recorder will be published or kept secret........

The British Press was very critical of the Polish President before he was elected and suggested he was a bully and a biggot and like any other high profile death he has recieved nothing but praise since his death. Right now I would lika an objective revue of him because I am unclear of his personality and what part that might have paid in this incident.

Just heard Kaczysnki did fire a pilot in the past......
Also the plane right before with experienced pilots (regarding that specific airport) went to another airport because of the wheather conditions.
btw: there are protests now in Polen because people don't want Kaczysnki to be buried on a 'sacred' graveyard where famous Kings etc. are buried.
