Windows 7 64 bit

Post by Ritchie »

Hey guys , I have just ordered myself a new Acer computer , it runs the new Windows 7 64-bit system , an AMD dual-core 2.7 cpu and 4 gig ram , 750 Gig HD .

I was wondering if any of y'all have had any experience yet with the new 64-bit OS and how's the performance with it ?

cheers ..

Great ! :D , i'm going to be using it just for music , it wont ever be connected to the internet and i'll be deleting all "useless" programs which i hope will boost performance as a result .

cheers..

I did that on an XP desktop and it works out well. I do have a few security programs. I keep them updated, as well as windows updates; otherwise, it's netless. If you are upgrading from Vista you are going to love it. My wife has Vista on her laptop and I refuse to even use it.

I've never had to work with 64bit, i'm sure i will sometime in the future, but I was told XP 64bit required 'signed drivers' for every piece of hardware. Essentially this means that if your hardware doesn't come supplied with drivers for 64bit, you may struggle to get drivers that work. On 32bit, you can normally get homebrew drivers which will effectively do the job. That said, all hardware comes with drivers supplied for 32bit pretty much lol, its just older hardware that required newer updated drivers ;)

I've had a couple days using this new system and it's awesome ! I had to update the drivers for my music software and associated programs from the respective websites for W7 64 and thankfully the programs run as well as they did in 32 bit .
