Migraines

Post by tedeeoo »

As someone who suffers severely from migraine headaches, I would love to hear from anyone else who has them also. What has helped you, what has not and anything in between.

I get them a few times a year. I get the spotty vision as well. My head more often than naught will hurt right behind my eyes or at the very back of my head. What I normally do is take a lot of something that has the side effects of severe drowsiness and just try and sleep it off. They say caffeine helps, but it doesn't really help me at all, it normally just makes me nauseous if I already have a migraine. One of my mother's good friends is a acupuncturist and if she has an opening during a day that I have a migraine/really bad headache, she will stick me with needles...while it doesn't cure it straight up, it will cut my pain in about half and I can control it with Ibuprofen. If you want to go the herbal route, look for stuff that has feverfew in it. That also helps quite a bit too.

First off, thank you all for posting, that means alot to me. Like some of you I get visual "aura" too, mine are usually what I call "floaties". For some reason I wake up with 90 percent of my headaches, I have recently stopped drinking tea (absolute murder for me) and it has helped somewhat, I always thought it would be the caffiene in tea but now they (doctors) are saying that its the tannin content (tannic acid). Black tea has more of it than most other things combined, unfortunately, I have a strong family history for migraines also. After 4 preventive drugs that had worse side effects than the headache I told my neurologist I would not do another preventive drug, so right now I am taking an extended release magnesium supplement and a high dose b-complex vitamin (which bothers me a little also). I take Treximet if I have a headache that I just can't handle, but Treximet scares me a little, when they say its a vasoconstictor they mean it. I take migraten or fiorecet if the headache will allow me to get out of the bed. I have also tried both accupuncture and a chiropracter. I've probably done better with the magnesium/vitamins than anything but I still have as many days with a headache as I do without one. Again, thank all of you for taking the time to respond, if you ever have a question about migraine drugs please ask, I've tried most of them.

I do not suffer migraines but I did suffer bad headaches due to the different materials I use as a Plumber, things can be quiet toxic in confind spaces. I have dealt with this by cutting back on moving around in over heated vehicles and sleeping in a barely heated room with open windows.
I find sleeping with cool/cold fresh air is very good for me and always keeps me feeling fresh in the morning, yes Winter morning can be nippy but this isn't an issue, although Jessica isn't as keen!

If I sleep in a room that is the least bit to warm I can guarantee a migraine, the fresh air idea is a good one, getting out in the sun for a little while seems to help a bit also.
