confusing site to onlookers viva la difference

Post by frankus »

one of the reasons i re signed up here was because of the variety of views on the site.it got me thinking that this site has so many various views on the film, randy Rhoads and just plain life in general it must be very hard for people to understand if the site/s they post hold group attitude on things.

the only thing we all agree on is being spartacus  :fish:

I know I mention that we are a pirate ship often with my tongue pressed into my cheek, but what I hope we are is just different and open! I agree that we don't have one opinion on everything and we don't speak with one voice on any subject. Some confuse that with rocking the boat or being only a site for rebels, one thing we aren’t is jealous of anybody else!! Which has been the accusation of some feeble minded trolls!
To me the ability to have differing opinions on all subjects and maintain some semblance of respect to those holding different views is what makes us different, that doesn't always happen but most people learn to post with respect after a short time. Often people confuse low moderation with 'no' moderation and don't have any idea of how to self moderate. When they understand self moderation they are fine.

I remember when somebody who was close to Randy told me in that if Randy had been around when the net was around he would have hung out here with the rejects lepers and whores (I made up the examples).
All that said one thing that I do believe is that although we do resemble that pirate ship form time to time, lots of the people who did reject us when we set sail have come to change their opinions about us and our approach and often DO post or make contact with us. Sure we like anyone else lose members as time goes by but some get tired of the forums in general and others leave because it suits their purpose! But that’s life! And it happens in the real world as well

I think this site is just misunderstood. All the regular members, and our new people who joined since i went on a bit of a hiatus, have their own thoughts and beliefs and no problem with articulating them in a fair, intelligent manner.

Even if people disagree you can normally look at a post and you realize that people are going out of their way to be diplomatic and not offend. Especially in the current doc. thread.

Obviously there are occasions when people have a full on blowout but that happens everywhere. :)

The reason this site has a bad rep is laziness, people cant be bothered to figure out individual members views so just brand the whole site with the same color. If people would calm down for a moment instead of flaming someone right off the bat they would realize how laid back we are. Anyone who truly hates this sight or thinks we're all fucked up whacko's must just hate any idea of democracy or individuality IMHMFO.

Apparently we are the rebels or pirates or whatever, but if this is truly what it is to be an outlaw... i can live with it :D But the moment we start committing real acts of piracy on the high seas i will leave

Hi Rob

You are right hating UR comes from lazyness or the ability to take on others oppinions without trying to understand our honesty.
But, they might hate us but they can't seem to leave us alone!!! they are always visiting to see what we have or just to top up the inner disgust, I am sure when some read things like what I said here they get angry but my tongue is in my cheek

I look at this forum differently to most people, when i first joined i wasn't really bothered about what other people had to say and with time i began to see like minded people. Some people are very clicky and stick to talking to just 'those people'. I find that T.K is very much like that, if you have just joined you are treat with the 'newbie' attitude the guy who is just passing by. They know fuck all about what you are, and what knowledge or value to the site you could be. They don't give you the time of day. People who visit here are welcomed more and feel like they can join in without being the newbie who is just passing by. Most folk who see threads that they want to reply too but are very cautious of what to say. Here they can reply and within reason they are viewed for what they are, a spade is a spade. Being treat as an equal is always a good positive, being ignored and left out is the wrong way. This site has been viewed as the 'bad boys camp' for rejected T.K members. A bit like Colditz the POW camp for escapee allies. But don't feel like you can become an anarchist and kick up the dust here. We do have a code of conduct and some people are on there last warning 3 strikes then your out type of system. We have said goodbye to a few assholes and i was surprised that they lasted so long. Act like a dick and upset the apple cart and you will roll out the door. But being well humoured and honor our members with respect and respect will be returned its nice to be nice.

i agree with you about the way TK treats new members, I remember when I first signed up there, I had lots of questions about Randy and one of the mods asked me to stop posting so much, they said I was replying to too man topics & asking too many questions. I thought that was the whole point of a forum, but I remember one of the mods getting on my ass about that when I first joined up. I don't miss TK at all, I don't like to be where I'm not wanted.

To me, .tk is like a high school clique. You have to be a certain way to be accepted. UR is more like the debate team, you'd never be accepted by the clique, but you like to research, discuss and argue about stuff.

On a side note - with no offense intended - has anyone noticed how 90% of the questions raised at .tk include "Iron?" Rather than use the search function on the site or Google, they just wait for Anthony to answer the question. It's kinda like sitting through class and having only one student involved with the teacher while everyone else watches. Just an observation.

Hi Paul

You post regularly at both sites, and have done consistently for many years. Do you think both sites will ever reconcile, or do you think their ideologies are so far apart that it is impossible?

No Matt, I don't think they will reconcile.

I started with .tk in '03 and they've changed. The MODs aren't the problem, it's the air of being 'better' that some members have and new members are taught. It's grown out of control in a lot of ways I think. We all seemed to be good until the trailer incident and people chose to take sides. As if backing Peter would make them better fans or something.

I think it is a rift that will never heal. And frankly I don't care. I'd rather have the people I don't like to converse with stay in one place and not overrun both sites. I made my peace with .tk and I don't feel anything bad towards those who made it what it is. UR just feels more like home to me.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your reply, I must admit I look at a website much like a pub. A pub is the drinkers and bar staff, if either are disagreeable, then the pub degenerates. I think forums are much the same.

I re joined rrtk in December last year, after a self imposed exile of 2 years. I originally joined rrtk like Paul in 2003. It may have been earlier

However I seldom post there, because I like conversations, discussions, debates etc all to be allowed the freedom to flow and develop. They of course do flow at RRTK, but much less so than many other sites including here.
I find it unsettling contributing something, and not knowing if it will be deemed as not worthy by a mod, and consequently axed. It is annoying!

But there is no use me moaning about it :) that is it's nature. Like Frankus says 'Viva La Difference', great to have a choice, I am very fond of UR for having mods and posters that are such a thoughtful bunch, and for that I am grateful.

Here is a prime example as to what is wrong with .tk. The members are predominantly assholes who feel they must talk shit to be part of the clique.

Romeo must have stolen the trailer clip, I mean, just look at him! Now if I were to say Stanley Clarke sucks because he's black, they'd get all pissed off because that's racist. But because Romeo is white and has a unique look, he must be a criminal. Can't say anything positive about him at tk, because Peter might find out and cancel the film!
