I don't know if anyone else ever listened to The American Top Forty on the radio over the years, but I remember, as a kid, listening to it on Sundays after church. I enjoyed the music, but also the friendly voice of DJ Casey Kasem (who was also the voice of Shaggy on Scooby Doo).

This weekend's broadcast began with the words: "We began the weekend of July 4, 1970, and after 39 years this will be our final countdown,"... at 77-years-old he is retiring.

Although i haven't listened to the show in years, it is sad to have yet another institution from my childhood come to an end.

Sure Do

You know, my view of him is a little tainted. Some time ago someone recorded him "during a commercial break" on the radio getting angry at the fact that right after he had played a happy song he was supposed to announce the death of someone. It was very funny but my view of him was blown from that day forward. Still smiles mores than anyone working at Disneyland though...

Paul was his voice much different to his 'Shaggy' voice. Was it easily recognised to putting a voice to a face. You know what i mean when you here a famous persons voice on radio doing a voice over etc. It bugs you until you realise who the voice belongs too. You'd be waiting for him to say something like "Hey! Scoob where are you". Yikes....
