Susan Boyle
I am never one to watch talent shows so I didn't see her sing at the moment she sang "I Dreamed A Dream" on Britains Got Talent but I did watch her before the interviews started. Usually when someone gets famous everyone wishes them the best but then envy slowly creeps in and the parodies start. I've already seen one of them on the Jimmy Kimmel show and laughed just like everyone else. Her voice is used as the ultimate feel good sound bite to change people's mood no matter how aweful their lives may seem. I wish her the best in any event. I don't think I would want that level of glare on my life. Every imperfection exagerated just to entertain the masses.
She is perfect in her little world where she grew up but in other places she may seem quite odd. The song she chose was perfect for her. Look up the lyrics to the song she performed and you will see that she "fits" it perfectly. That is why she seems so believable. What the media wants to do now is try and discredit her. I hope she proves them wrong...

Hi EA
The press seem to treat her as their darling here in the UK. I like her and her singing a lot.
For the non Amercian posters could you describe the Kimmel show etc. Is it just aired in the US?

I admire Susan and her voice and I am glad she has had this chance to find a deserved fame, I found it warming that the inner beauty of this woman was able to shine through her less than classical good looks, I was ashamed to see a British audience readying themselves to laugh this poor woman off the stage all the way home to face a life being mocked as ‘That freak who tried to sing on TV’ .
I do have a problem with the kind of program that has discovered her because they are structured in such a way that participants are mocked mercilessly, and others who match up to all the considered beauty traits are lined up for mocking! Ie attractive people with crappy voices and people with learning difficulties get dragged out for humiliation. I am ashamed that our entertainment has sunk to such a level that reality TV selects our celebrities who’s only attribute is that they were in ‘Big Brother’ and got there breasts out.
We have a show here called ‘X-Factor’ which is like ‘American Idol’ and they have auditions that they drag out over five weeks so we can see all deluded individuals parade around believing that they have a talent then all they receive is national humiliation! This then moves onto select about twenty singers who then fight it out to win the competition all of which have to be good looking. My problem is this, since when was it important to be an amazing singer? And why does it have to be a singer and not a great musician,so why don't musicians count? and where would these singers be without the people who make it possible for them to sing? The ability to be creative in music relies on the people who write and play the music and the vision they create within the composition.
My favorite singers are David Bowie, Ozzy and Willie Nelson none of whom are anything to look at! But all have contributed more to music than many others, Take Bowie he revolutionized popular music in the early seventies and is still setting trends today, but if he had go on a TV talent show he wouldn’t make it past the auditions because he looks weird and sings in an odd way
.
I don't watch reality TV shows I have but find them to sadening.
Long live Susan because they can say many things about her but she was able to stun the world!
I was however dissapointed that she has more hits on youtube than the inauguration on the first black man to be elected leader of the most powerful nation on the planet though.
It is hugely sad that reality TV is more valued than real historical events
.

Cologne she'll wear silver and americard, She'll drive a beetle car and beat you down at cool Canasta. And when the clothes are strewn don't be afraid of the room touch the fullness of her breast feel the love of her caress she will be your living end.

Matt-
The best way to describe the Jimmy Kimmel show is that it is designed like a David Letterman show or a Conan O'Brian show but a little more vulgar and coarse. The host introduces the talent and they discuss whatever project they are working on. The jokes they do are not really for me so I don't sit down and watch that show. I usually just keep flipping the channels. He was on another show called "The Man Show." That is how I remember him.
Ian-
I couldn't of said it better myself. Those shows are terrible. I agree in that they are designed to humiliate the delusional. Again, I am embarrased to say I have laughed at a few of the contestants (when the person is arrogant or completely out of key) but I do know when people are trying to be cruel. But remember; step into the lair of wolfs and you might just be eaten alive... Susan would have succeeded no matter how venomous the audience. Listen to that voice and you just say WOW!

I am more often found litening to female singers and value some of the least popular/well considered among the most popular.
EA,
I am so pleased I had not offended you with my post because you were so positive and then I poured all my poison onto it.
I am guilty of enjoying these crappy auditions as well! the same ones you enjoy the unpleasant know all's who believe they are somehow better that anybody else. I see these shows as an extension of shows like Springer where the lowest in our societies grasp at what they see as fame, by going onto TV and telling stories that most would deal with and then move on. Here in Britain we have what we call 'Day time TV' which is hours of fighting couples who think that fame has now arrived, and it has devalued what had been informative TV time.
All this has allowed day and evening programming to become the lowest common denominator and has made viewing chewing gum for the eyes!
WOW! What a snob I sound, but it puts me in mind of twenty odd years ago when I was telling friends that these albums 'Blizzard & Diary' were more than just rock albums but if they persevered they would see they had an underlying layer of genius within the composition and actual playing of Randy Rhoads. I remember being told I was stupid and these were just a bunch of throw away songs by a band that had been over hyped! And it was trash by a man whose only claim to fame was biting the head off a Bat!
I can proudly report that these people have now realized and accepted they were wrong and now listen to these songs and understand the value and timeless quality of them.

She's Back
Well, the Semi-final performance of Susan Boyle is now on youtube and some are a bit divided about this performance. I knew she had wavered on the first pitch of Memories from Cats but I still believe it was another powerful performance. Finals are next week. Best of luck to you Susan...

She performed I dreamed a Dream again and it was better than before.
Her mannerisms when she is interviewed make me think she is on the autistic spectrum too. She is off the wall.
Update..she came 2nd, but was really gracious about it.
She is great

Exhausted
The final performance of Susan was a little less bold. I don't care about whether or not she won or not but I didn't like the way all the TV stations (i.e. ABC) made it seem that her dream was over somehow. If I remember correctly all she ever wanted to to perform in front of a live audience. That came true...
I'm sure there will be a lot of "Behind the Scenes" dirt that will be exagerated in the coming days. If she seems a little autistic to a few it is because she hasn't quite figured out the way these shows are laid out...like a circus but where the people are whipped into wild behavior for our amusement.

Papers like the Daily Mail (our national enquirer LOL) reported with a negative bias towards her saying she shunned the other contestants and also that she told a room full of people to "f*ck off"
I think the sounds of everyone and the chaos came too much for her in this instance and resulted in her losing her temper.
A sensory overload I can relate to with Susan, she looked relieved to me not to have won.
She will have many opportunities from this.
Bless her heart.

I hope this very ordinary woman has the success she deserves, she has inner beauty beyond whatever the Daily Mail can do to attack her.
For anyone who doesnt understand the position of this shitty peice of crap it is right wing but far to the right of the British political right! it is designed to frighten old rich ladies into believing they will be raped by foreigners as they try to sleep in there beds

I think if you imagine reading a Nazi paper whilst visiting the Third Reich in the early 1930's, its something like that but a little more right wing!!!!
A peice of fucking shit wanky bollocks paper preaching hate and claiming it as fucking news!!!
incase nobody is clear about my feelings?
I don't like it

In A London Flat
I wanted to give a positive update on Susan Boyle.
LONDON - Susan Boyle, who became a global star after appearing on a British television talent contest, has left the London clinic where she was being treated for exhaustion, her brother said on Friday. The 48-year-old amateur singer from Scotland, whose performance on "Britain's Got Talent" in April was downloaded nearly 200 million times on the Internet, was admitted to the Priory clinic on Sunday amid concerns for her mental health.
"She's much happier," her brother Gerry told GMTV.
"She seems a lot more like herself. I think things are becoming clearer now and she's much more content. I believe she's in the middle of London, in a flat in London."
Dowdy and unglamorous, the unemployed church volunteer challenged viewers' notion of what a star should be.
Boyle was thrust into the media limelight with camera crews camping outside her home and Larry King and Oprah Winfrey inviting her to appear on their U.S. chat shows.
But as Saturday's final of the popular talent show approached, Boyle, who was starved of oxygen at birth leading to minor brain damage, began to show signs of strain, bursting into tears regularly and threatening to leave the show.
When she failed to win the final, despite overwhelming odds in her favour, she was admitted to the private clinic suffering from emotional exhaustion.
Boyle's financial future is seen as secure despite coming second to dance troupe Diversity, as Britain's Got Talent creator Simon Cowell and his Syco music label are expected to sign her up for an album.
There has also been talk of a Hollywood movie.
"The way forward now is to talk about where her career goes from here," Boyle's brother said.
"She's absorbing the fact that America has a huge appetite for her and she's now beginning to believe that yes, indeed, I will be a singer and there will be a recording career beyond it. It's all she ever wanted to do."
He backed Cowell to manage Boyle's recording career.
"Simon Cowell — he's been around the dance floor a few times hasn't he? I'm sure that he knows that he's got someone who has broken down the barriers in America before she even gets there and I'm sure Simon will do a good job for her."
Boyle's brother also confirmed reports that Boyle was expecting to perform in front of U.S. President Barack Obama.
Go Susan Go!...

The press here on the cheaper less inteligent papers have done the building up and knocking down of Susan as you might know. I don't read these budget titles and I am pleased to see that the more aware papers didn't run with stories that infringed on Susans privacy.
I really hope that she is helped and has people around her who will help her to keep grounded and surounded by people who care and have her best interests at heart. If the current newspepers are reporting any facts about her it seems she had had an emotional breakdown.
I look forward to seeing her sing to President Obama they are two people that many wrote off as good enough to have success. They also prove that a few people can't be trusted alone and that public opinion knows better than the few who pervert ideas and free thinking.

It is good to hear all this. Susan seems so sincere and the kind of lady that is very open. I suppose that is where her vulnerability is.
I am usually not genuinely impressed with many of the talent show winners (often I know there are loads of people in London Conservatoires that could play/sing the pants off the ones who win)
With Susan I feel different. Her voice is so full of passion and musicality. Even though I am not fond of musicals I will buy what she releases.
