How's the work situation in the UK ?

I'm giving a serious thought about moving outside the
swedish borders and try something different and what
would be a better place than a country with a language
I speak and understand?

I'm thinking about London actually, where I know atleast 1 member here (Matt) resides.

But as there are a few UKers on here, which proffesions are looking to hire?
Where can I find the cheapest places to live?

I don't require much.
Just a roof over my head, a little water, coffee, cigarettes and
my precious guitar
I don't mind hard labour either
I do have a drivers license, although it's a little intimidating that
you guys drive on the wrong side of the road
One of the reasons I chose London though is that I believe there
are a few chances to jam out

According to a seminar I attended a few months ago, it's even worse in the UK (especially London) than it is in Sweden at the moment. Feel free to correct me though if you're a native, as it's a place I'd love to move to as well.

It is bad supposedly (I say supposedly, because touch wood, we are okay in out professions)

The good news is rent is cheaper than it has been for while, houses for first time buyers are cheap and if you work for the NHS, Police, Education you are relatively safe.

Well i think the work situation where i live (Newcastle upon Tyne - North East England) is at an all time low. I could see it getting worse before it gets better. It's the longest i've been out of work for and it sucks. It looks like i'm going to have to look out of the area, which would mean working and living in temporary accomodation while still having to pay bills etc back home. My trade is a Painter & Decorator and you'd think i would always be able to get work ..Believe me its got alot to do with the government letting too many foreigners into the country. Pollish cheap labour and work being done elsewhere for cheaper rates. RANT RANT over ...

IMO you may as well stay home sweden is a pretty good place to be, but if you really do want a change why not try a smaller city/town London is a bit cliche.

What job would you want to do? the highstreets have been hit pretty hard lately in Canterbury (where i live 90% of the time) lots of shops and pubs/clubs have shut down.

im not sure you could be guarenteed to find a job easily

If you were thinking of Guitar teaching privately and/or schools there is loads of work.
Every school I know has over subscriptions for lessons and it is more of a case of schools trying to get enough teachers to match the pupil intake.

This is the good news amongst the darkness.

I would do my best to help you if you came to London.

private guitarteaching would be cool, but in that case i would
have to work on my teaching abilities first. i would have to
teach myself some musical terminology too so I could put
words to what I'm doing

yeah i live a stones throw (granted a pretty good throw ) from the classical music department. Im interested to see what they're going to do, especialy since they're building it next to an old church

i want to do a day for night test shoot in that graveyard actualy

I have been in contact with a man in the music dept at Canterbury and I love th look of it there , I have decided I am going back to University in 2011. I will need to finish an exam I am studying for in Guitar performance and save some cash and then I can begin.

My dad thinks Canterbury is the most beautiful city maybe even in the world!
