Non-internet reality
did you all hear about the wal-mart employee that got crushed and stampeded on friday?!?!? WTF?!?!
i named this topic what i named it because i think this kind of goes hand in hand with the internet reality thread. it's one thing that people can watch a video of some horrific thing and somehow (as disgusting as it is) detach themselves from it -- but HOW does someone walk all over and crush a living breathing human being right in front of them so that they can get a dvd for 10 bucks, or save 20 on a plasma tv - and shrug it off as if it were insignificant and CONTINUE SHOPPING?

Yeah well that just about sums up what the world has turned into.Too many people turn a blind eye and this is the result.I'd sue the arse off the store, security should have had control on the shoppers to stop this happening.Life is too precious to be snuffed out over manic shoppers looking for a bargain fucking pure madness...

i hear ya on the sue the arse off thing, BUT, I also have some opinions about THAT as well. Humor me:
There were over two thousand people in front of that store waiting to get in. At what point do you honestly think that the retailer could have had any kind of "crowd control"? There are eleventy billion+ Wal-Marts across the US. This happened at ONE. It's never happened in the past, and I am SURE they did not anticipate this kind of thing EVER happening, you know? When do we quit STOP expecting to be babysat and START being responsible and accountable for our own actions as human beings?!?!? Just because there isn't an entire SWAT team standing in front of a store ready to shoot you with bean bags in order to FORCE you to behave civilly is no reason nor is it a license to behave savagely!!!
On to the "suing" part. Americans are way too "sue happy" If you get fat, sue McDonalds. If you have a fender bender, rack up 50 thousand dollars in MRI's and flop on the ground like you're disabled for life. If someone says the wrong thing to you at work, sue your employer. Everybody wants to get rich and no one wants to work (FYI - the only one getting rich is your attorney!!). We truly do live in the "age of entitlement" - it's horrid. it's all about what do you OWE me.
The sickening part of the incident above is this: How many people are going to file suit against Wal-Mart, claiming every kind of emotional damage as a result of this, who were running right along with the pack, stepping on people's heads to save 20 dollars on a television?!?!? At what point are you standing there at 3:00 a.m., holding your 8-year-old child's hand - listening to the crowd chant "push the doors in" and watching everyone pushing and pressing up to the front... at what point do you put your child BACK in the car and say... "you know what? i think i'd rather spend the 20 bucks!!" and GO BACK HOME!!
To me, this isnt a story of lack of security, this is a story of savage human behavior. Maybe if people didnt already have the thought in their head "hey, that guy looks hurt... ahhh... he can sue the store later, he'll be ok" you know?
Now, the problem with the retailer(s) is this: What can they expect when they market the sales the way they do... They put items on sale for this really good, good deal, then they tell the masses they have "limited availability" you know "while supplies last" -- i mean... if you are going to sell an item, especially at a sale price... then STOCK THE ITEM!!!! Otherwise people are going to tromple all over eachother to get to it first.
It's just sad to me what we are becoming. this IS a direct result, i think, from how bad the American economy has gotten. People have been losing their homes, can't afford to put gas in the vehicle to even go to work, electricity bills each month are higher than your mortgage payment, a gallon of milk is a freakin LUXURY item. Is it any wonder that some people will kill for a 20 dollar discount? really think about it.

We as a society have detached ourselves from the sanctity of human life. It is like the guy that was hit by a car, I think it was in Chicago, and the security cameras filmed the whole thing. Not one person stopped walking to help the guy that just lay in the road.
This is just one more example how humans have become completely desensitized. I am horrified by thi sand find it to be a sign of the times.

So as far as WALL-MART goes no one on there behalf is responsible for this persons death. So is this persons family going to look at this as an accident waiting to happen and unfortunately they had to be the one to die. The crowd should of been let into the shop in a que on a first come first served basis. Pure madness to even let them all rush the entrance at the same time. You wouldnt do this at a rock concert and not bother putting crash barriers up in front of the stage etc..Yeah people do get hurt at gigs but they do have some kind of control and have people looking out to make sure no one gets injured or trampled on...

i'm not disagreeing with you, dude. What I am saying is that HUMAN BEINGS place more value on a television than on a human life!!!! We can get into corporate liability allll day long. but that wasn't the point i was getting at when i created this thread. the point is that people DO this kind of crap to begin with. with no conscience. crash barriers do not make a conscience. when the employees tried to close the store down because the dude was laying there dead... the shoppers were COMPLAINING and REFUSING to quit shopping!!!!! what kind of sick ass people would do that?!?!?GUITARIDOL5682 wrote:So as far as WALL-MART goes no one on there behalf is responsible for this persons death. So is this persons family going to look at this as an accident waiting to happen and unfortunately they had to be the one to die. Yeah HP i totaly agree with your thinking, along with alot of people. The store should be responsible for the death of the person it happened on there premises.Due to the lack of control on the people responsible for this person's death.Compensation will not bring that person back, but it should be considered for the family's loss.
