Our friend Dave-RIP

Post by Cpt Matt Sparrow »

Dear UR friends

Last Thursday a great friend of ours passed away. Myself, Suzie and Queen Mama (Barbara) were all, in different ways, a part of this man's life, and he ours; Dr David Vickery-Weekes.

He helped me produce my first cd and before we could afford a car drove us to gigs, did shopping with us and was a great friend. We also shared a love of Pizza and diet coke (his favourite drink as he gave up booze)

He was a very eccentric big hearted man. His spelling and driving were not the best in the world!!:)...

but his mind was so powerful. He Lectured on Archaeology until he recently passed away.

He will be missed very much. I have posted this to echo Barbara's (High Priestess) sentiments about the internet, and real life and to move on from recent things.

I made this for him and to share with you.

That's a very great tribute, Dweebshire, I'm sure he would have loved it. Stay strong in this hard time, bud. *huggle*

Thank you sincerely all my UR friends, your a good lot :) I think Simon, you met Dave on your stay recently.

In the club we are a funny mix of people. Dave was an Archaeologist, Suzo me and Barbara work in education and the club also has members who are plumbers, electricians, builders, one care assistant, a supermarket worker, an ex policeman and 2 city women who work as personal assistants.

It is a club joke that it is a magnet for off the wall people but we are, all despite our mix of ages, and occupations, beliefs, and class back ground, all the best of friends.

All of us at cons miss Dave hugely.

Me Suzo and Barbara got a chance to see him much before he passed on.

I played his favourite piece to him 4 days before he died and he had already said he wanted it at his funeral, so i am going to do my best and give it all I have!

Cheers again everyone.

The more memories that you have the longer your life seems to be, so when someone helps provide you with great memories the greater the impact on your life.

Remember and smile is my standing when we lose someone we love, and I think you’d be able to do that Matt.

Well I inherited this today from our friends son:)

I always loved it, being so fond of Horses (Dave called me just 'Horse' not Matt!) At meetings around his house we would all sit around the table and Suzie used to find it so funny that this was always on the table looking all serious while the meeting went on.

I think Dave enjoyed the off the wallness of Horse there; while we tried to talk seriously about things.

Now it sits on our dining room table. I am so happy to have it :)

Thanks for all the well wishes too. Dave would have felt right at home at UR!

Thanks Patrick and BUHZERKER.

As strange as it may sounds there is good that has come from his death too. He was so active mentally, that he was always onto the next project and looking ahead. His funeral and accomplishments spoken about was actually very inspiring to live life well.

In his life he was an amateur boxer in the army, a doorman, a Lecturer, teacher, writer, councilor, youth worker and at one stage worked in chip shop while finishng his Phd!

A 'anything is possible' kind of man.

Cheers
