Yes, it is a touchy subject. I am a Christian and I don't care for people saying there are "flaws" in my beliefs, because there are not. However, I am open to discuss them so that I can point out that what some people consider flaws are not really flaws at all but misunderstanding of what is written.

If you don't want to discuss it, it would probably be best not to bring it up in the first place, as that could lead to offending some people. Again, you have the freedom of choice to do what you choose, I am just pointing out my point of view.

This whole debate highlights the differences between worship by Europians on both sides of the Atlantic.
I can see that Simon was stating the common feeling towards the church here in Europe now.
Cologne she'll wear silver and americard, She'll drive a beetle car and beat you down at cool Canasta. And when the clothes are strewn don't be afraid of the room touch the fullness of her breast feel the love of her caress she will be your living end.

Did you even read my post? There are no flaws in my beliefs, but I am open to discussion of the subject. Where is that narrow?

Because I have faith and complete confidence in what I believe you judge me?

But the statement was that Christianity has flaws, that is what I am defending, Christianity.

I believe that if you read the Bible, pray for understanding and have faith, God will show you the proper meaning and give you understanding.

Attacking people who believe in God is a sign of ignorance unless you explain your reason for not believing. Taking the time to understand both sides of the discussion is a sign of maturity.

All I ask is that we keep this discussion civil and elaborate rather than making short generalized statements.

There are differences in views from one side of the Atlantic to the other, that is why explanations and elaborations are needed - so we can all understand one another.

not a new idea. the supreme being as a concept. it's easier to reduce the divine to an abstract idea and then dissect that idea than it is to come face to face with Him in the stillness of your heart. wait for solitude and speak of your doubts to the night. then wait for the answer. it might come soon. maybe not. but it will come.

appetites are not invented. they reside within us from birth. only the real thing can satisfy that hunger.

(b.t.w., i'm not talking about religion.)

OK, we all have our beliefs. Now, mind you, we all have to admit, that there is a "higher power". Different religions believe in different things.
Granted, everyone will not believe in the same thing about anything, which makes us all unique. Which, btw, is the case here.
Different cultures, different religions, different beliefs.

Why is that? Don't we all look at the grand picture the same? Don't we all live on the same planet and breathe the same air?
But, alas, people have some sort of issues with religion, and that's ok with me. They are entitled to their beliefs and whatnot. The only problem that I have, is when people who have found religion, or have become born-again, is that they try to "push" it upon me. Saying that I will go to hell if I do this, or if I don't do that.
I feel at times that I am living in hell. I often felt (and still do) that when my child died, that I was (am) being punished. Same for my parents, my house (from the storm), and anything else bad that has happened to me.
That's just me. Feeling guilty 24/7.

Will I go to "hell", or am I living in it? Who really knows? We will know when our time comes. And when it does, I hope that all of my questions are answered, and I am satisfied with the answer.

My Ex lives there and is affectionately known as Satan :P

I am a Christian and I agree with you that those "born again" types are highly annoying when they get pushy. I will discuss my beliefs with anyone - I even have a Bible verse tattooed on my shoulder, so the subject comes up often - but I don't believe in pushing it on anyone or condemning people who choose not to believe as I do. That is between them and God.

Agreed.
Here is where our "free will" comes in. We can listen and then we can choose what we will with the information.
I'll admit, even though being raised as a catholic, I have not been practicing my religion as I was "forced" to do as a child. I could not stand the thought of being in chuch for 45 minutes to an hour in a building, doing something that I could do when I wanted to, anywhere I wanted to.
I was tired of the church telling me how to live my life. Then, the "guilt trip" kicked in.
I still feel that way at times.
Now, as a parent of two young ladies, I feel that they need some sort of spirital guidance.
Kind of hypocritical? Yes. It's like what Bill Cosby had said in his comedy show "Himself", except, instead of grandparents getting old and trying to get into Heaven, it is me. Trying to right the wrongs of my youth. Does it work? Well, when my time comes, I'll know, and somehow or another, I'll be sure to let others know.

You are narrowminded because you fail
to see that everything has flaws.

Reading the bible? Even Mötley Crües autobiography
was better and atleast there's an ounce of truth to it.
