also, excercise keeps your mind good when its "raining" shit.

Oth's right, swimming and focusing on getting some weight off would help. I earn my living working with stroke patients in hospitals so I know how important it is to take care of yourself. Start gently but start today, it might not ease the pain Paul but it might just lift your spirits.Paul Wolfe wrote:I'll look into the local pool prices... thanks for the idea.

I have to wait until Dec 6th to have the next specialist review my MRI results and decide what will work... in the meantime, I have good days and bad days. I went a week with almost no pain and then 2 nights ago I rolled over in bed and something 'popped' and the excruciating pain came roaring back...CanuckRhoadsFan wrote:How's the hip these days, Paul? Well, hang in there man. Hopefully they can get some answers for you in the near future. I hear you about having to be careful; I got the staples out of my incision a couple of days ago from my operation, and I have to be very careful myself. Unfortunately the incision didn't close all the way at the top, and they had to stuff it with gauze. Moving slowwwwww is the operative phrase for both us, it sounds like!Paul Wolfe wrote:I have to wait until Dec 6th to have the next specialist review my MRI results and decide what will work... in the meantime, I have good days and bad days. Re: Not Too Hip
Thanks! Eh, I'm not gonna complain too much. The complications from this type of surgery could be MUCH worse, and I've managed to avoid them so far (knock on wood) , so I consider myself lucky. I tend to look on the optimistic side of things like this - for the pain I'm having, there's also a lot more I avoided. And really, I'm happy with the progress I've made so far, however slow. It's all a blessing, and I can't ask for more than I've gotten.Paul Wolfe wrote:Damn, I'm sorry to hear that. Just in time for a holiday, too!CanuckRhoadsFan wrote:Well, hang in there man. I also came away from this surgery with a new respect for nurses. The ladies at the hospital I was at were absolutely fantastic, and I made it a point to thank them and let them know I appreciated the care I was receiving. Sadly, they are in a profession where they don't hear "Thank you, I appreciate what you do" enough. These folks are on the front lines of care in a hospital, and they don't get to hear their work is important very often. And believe me, it is!
Looking around in the room I was in (with 4 other people), I also realized that one's health is incredibly important. While I was able to get out of the hospital in a week, some folks had extended stays. Every day I'm recuperating at home, I thank God for the good fortune I had.

What a great attitude!
I'm constantly telling my kids that as bad as I hurt sometimes things could be much worse. Instead of being angry about my situation, I tell them God has a plan and a reason for everything and He'll work everything out for the best in His time.
God bless, sir.

Thanks! And Amen to that sentiment!Paul Wolfe wrote:What a great attitude!

You know, I don't consider myself a religious person, but I swear, I've prayed more lately than I ever have. I sincerely believe that this experience was like God's/The Universe's way of telling me to re-examine my life - what I eat, how much stress I take on/how I handle it, to slow down in general, and to take time for myself. I'm one of those folks that's always doing for others, and most times I don't think about what I need to do for myself. This whole ordeal has made me take a few steps back. The world will turn without me!
I totally agree about with what you say about how everything happens for a reason; we're at the places in our lives we need to be for the moment. When the moment is right, we evolve past those moments and places in our lives. Like I say, it sucks that I am in pain with this, but I'm getting something out of it, self-reflection wise. And isn't that the point of life, really? To stand up and say, "Hey, I don't know everything! What else can I learn?".
Man, I hope the docs get stuff sorted out for you soon....keep up posted, alright?
And bless you, sir! All the best in the upcoming holiday season, as well as Thanksgiving! Take care!

Re: Not Too Hip
Hang in there, both of you- I had a non cancerous tumor removed earlier this year that required 2 surgeries/hospitalizations, and the 2nd surgery they performed an incision called a coronal approach, where the incision is behind my hairline, ear to ear, but they removed a large section of my skull itself to gain access to the tumor. Dang thing must've came from a fractured nose I'd received in a fight, the bone tumor (or rather the osteoma) it was a little over 5cm and it grew into and out of my sinus and eye cavity and was heading toward my brain!
I just wanted to say that I relate, it sucks not knowing what's next, then waiting for the surgery, then healing- but when all is said and done, hopefully you will be grateful that you did it.

Ahh thank you both- I apologize that I haven't seen this until now, December was a rather tumultuous month for me! Fortunately I've healed well and both hospitalizations and surgeries are just a memory for the most part..
Hope all is wonderful for my fellow UR posters! Here's to a terrific 2014!

Glad to hear you're healing up! I am as well, just taking it slow! I wonder how Paul is these days? Haven't seen him (or lots of other folks) around for a while.RRfan4eveRR wrote:Ahh thank you both- I apologize that I haven't seen this until now, December was a rather tumultuous month for me!
