The store should not be responsible for the mob mentality of the patrons. Wal-Mart is not responsible for the lack of morality and intelligence of the population at large. Society needs to change, from the bottom up or these unfortunate accidents will continue to take place.
Honestly, I don't see where monetary compensation should be considered in any way for the family's loss. A loved one is gone, money will not bring them back. Making Wal-Mart pay will not change the possibility of a crowd doing the same thing again. I'm sure Wal-Mart will be making changes simply because it did happen. All the people involved in opening that store will forever have to live with what happened. Don't you think they will want to make sure it doesn't happen again?
As HP mentioned, there are a lot of Wal-Marts and this happened at only one store. It's not Wal-Mart that needs to change, it is society.

precisely!!
and along those lines, even if everyone were to sue walmart.... that's really such a scapegoat, in my opinion, for the people who are truly responsible (the ones who stampeded) to be able to place blame on someone else. ya know? it's like... if everyone blames the store, and the store pays out, then it just goes away and noone has to feel bad or take responsibility for what they did, after all, it's wal-mart's fault, right? i'm not trying to be sarcastic here, i promise. but we are a seriously "blame shifting" society.
I wonder how many people that were there.. and were a party to what happened are sitting there going "well... i don't feel bad at all... if wal-mart would have had their shit together, this wouldn't have happened" - the sad reality is that there are those who DO think that way. and they sleep at night with no problem. and i think that is just terrible.
re: the religious subject. dude, seriously. there's nothing religious about me. my point was that, like it or not, CHRISTMAS is a religious holiday. One of which most of these people were shopping for gifts for. My point is that if THIS is what it's come down to, then it sure has seriously gravitated way the hell away from what it was INITIALLY supposed to be about. how can you hand someone a gift, in celebration of the birth of your savior, that you killed someone for? preposterous! again, that is NOT about religion, it just goes to show how society is getting. If the love of you own deity doesn't keep you from killing another human being FOR A DISCOUNT (we aren't talking a million bucks here....) then how the hell is 10 or 15 more security persons?

I'm all for providing a bullet proofed arena for all these ass-hats. Let them arrange times, and meet up and kill each other there. They'd have to sign a waiver and donate their organs though

That was at a Toy's R Us in near Palm Springs, CA. It had nothing to do with shopping, and everything to do with rival gang members or thugs. It could have happened anywhere. It's pathetic that these two dirtbags did it in a toy store where children obviously are.

I think that is absolutely disgusting how dare they not take more of each other out, seriously though at toy store what the hell were they thinking?cableguyxx wrote:That was at a Toy's R Us in near Palm Springs, CA. Actually money could be saved by just having them meet out of town somewhere, just provide them with some security by the army to make sure no innocents got hurt, and none of them get away. Win win for everyone, we get rid of low lives and provide target practice for the army.cableguyxx wrote:I'm all for providing a bullet proofed arena for all these ass-hats. Why on earth would you want to avoid the religious basis for this? As HP said, Christmas is a religious holiday. The reason we give gifts is in remembrance of the wise men in Bethlehem. She was 100% correct in what she said. The United States is so bent on taking religion out of everything that they are taking the common sense morality out of most things as well.GUITARIDOL5682 wrote:" am fairly sure this is NOT what the three wise men had in mind when they came bearing gifts, dude, if you know what i mean." Lets keep off the religious topics for now please.Even though its nearly christmas
Now, in regards to the gang thing, scoop 'em all up, put 'em on a plane to Fallujah and let have at it with the insurgents who hate America. Kill two birds with one stone, so to speak.

All major companies use the cheap labor these days. That doesn't make it right, it's just part of our society getting as far from morality as possible. We'd have to stop shopping altogether to get away from it.
The revolution is coming, though. Throughout history, every time the 'upper' class creates such a huge divide with the 'working' class, revolution comes knocking.

wareagle - you do not get good pay for doing unskilled jobs. Hard work does not equal decent pay. In fact, the more you learn, and become skilled at what you do, the less hard you will have to work, and the more you will make.
From Christmas Vacation:
Audrey: He worked really hard, Grandma.
Art: So do washing machines.
