Why not the Strat?

Post by Trigger »

I know Randy had a Strat but does anyone know why he stopped playing Strats and went on to Les Pauls? Did he use a Strat on the 2 QR albums?

I could be wrong but I just wanted to get more info on his use of Strats. :D
Cologne she'll wear silver and americard, She'll drive a beetle car and beat you down at cool Canasta. And when the clothes are strewn don't be afraid of the room touch the fullness of her breast feel the love of her caress she will be your living end.

it oughta' be a matter of personal taste :)

... however though, I've heard that a strat was used in
the mix even on the Ozzy albums :!:

Les Paul was used on Blizzard,
Les paul I think was used on QR I/II
Strat was POSSIBLY used on diary of a madman, it was owned by the director or producer or something. it was a bare wood finish!

I heard Randy telling in the John Stix interview that he thought a strat was not fat enough in a trio.

a Strat could've been used on Blizzard too :!:

... but as far as I read, the albums were so heavily mixed with
humbucker equipped guitars so a strat won't be noticable really.

there are 11 guitar parts on You Can't Kill Rock and Roll, I am sure he probably used the strat as well as other guitars (12-string firebird) on that for texture.

His sister said he loved the Les Paul more than any other guitar he had played, I'm guessing that'd be why he didn't play strats more. Not to mention, the "super strats" popularized by EVH were only coming into production aroud the time of his death...

Well Eddies Frankenstrat basically was a super strat and if randy had of played one of those, he already had expressed displeasure at being reffered to as eddie, so it wouldnt have helped!

Well, a superstrat is a strat with a humbucker and how many of
those have you seen before Eddie ?

I'd say that the Frankenstrat was the first superstrat EVER :D

indeed.
nothing bad with humbuckers though :)
just that a strat should have 3 singlecoils ...
but I admire Eddie for his innovative ideas :D

I tried a $1200 strat not too long ago at Guitar Center. I played it for about 2 minutes and handed it back to the guy. I told him that I now know why I've stayed away from Strats, and stuck with Jackson!!

Too thin sounding for my tastes. The action was... none.

Just didn't knock me on my ass like a Jackson does.
