Hey Frank when was the last time you met or spoke to Randy and if its not painful for you what did you talk about? I will understand if this is something you won't want to share.

christmas day, 1980. my family and i were invited to his house. our time was spent on catching up personally. no road stories that i can remember. randy and jodi gave us some cookies and fudge in a beautiful basket with ribbons and bows. they baked it themselves. doesn't sound like a rock star story, does it? god, i miss him.

perhaps you could clear this up frank, but do you think he ever really had a rock star attitude. ive always found he was too nice to be like a metal god or whatever. He was more, a guitar virtuoso, rather than a rock star!

if by rock star attitude you mean was he arrogant and full of himself then no. if you mean did he have style and was he flamboyant...absolutely. i'd take him to the market to get shampoo because his car was always breaking down and he'd get stares. soft-spoken and kind but onstage...look out. the first time i saw him play i was shocked. this was not my guitar teacher.

Great story Tab. Thanks for sharing it with us. Would loved to have seen Ozzy and Randy on the Diary Tour with the full castle backdrop and stage set up.

Yes, I did mention that. Because I was like the 3rd person by the door, you could hear it. First just heavy chunky barre chords and some blues licks, then all of a sudden fast runs up the neck and dive bomb type feedback with the whammy. We just had a look on our faces that whoever that was is really good, but pretty much we figured it was Randy. Back then not a lot of people played like that, especially guitar techs. I have asked Rudy about it and said it most likely was Randy.
Now that's what I wanted to hear. Thnx!

I think it was Randy as well. Hence the Texas soundcheck, he is doing some bluese licks there and after that some faster stuff. Too bad that soundcheck has been cut somehow.

no, unfortunately, I was not able to see him.
Ozzy was supposed to play in Baton Rouge, but the concert was cancelled.
Mom and dad told me that there was no way in hell I was going to see "some devil worshipper" while I lived in their house.
Ticked off, of course, but I had no other choice...I was only 14...*sigh*
