karl sandoval and grover jackson talk about construction. p dot and concorde are both 25.5" doesnt say scale of the black jackson
http://www.premierguitar.com/articles/t ... y-rhoads-1 = this shows p dot being made .
If theres 2 gats side by side , the 24.75" is easier to play because of less string tension , the 25.5" is tuff going .
alot of guitarist tune strings down (slack) for less tension and longer life of strings , not only that but the tone of the guitar changes straight away ,comes alive .....basically its balls drop
the more metal to wood contact the better the tone and sustain . alot of people complain about the floyd rose bridge because its arse in the air and doesnt contact the wood .
the article says RR had a solid brass bridge and sustain block . to benfit most from that itd have to have flat contact with body .
benefit = tone /sustain and also when a string breaks the gat doesnt go out of tune even tho its lost 1 string because the bridge is flat against the body.
now.....IF RR was tuned at std then 25.5" is TUFF ASS playing whiether sitting in a studio or worse on stage.
Ive only got the tribute LP , I never bought the studio LPs ,I didnt want anything to ruin my Tribute experience .
of course Ive heard ozzy on radio and at friends places but never sat down to listen in detail , partly ignoring it.
my only learning is from slowing down the LP , frickin amazing guitarist (NOT me you freak ...RR!!)
the LP sounds like its a tad sped up in places , mind you Ive been thru about 5 record players since!!!
Ive got a strat and a gibson V and have wondered how much time RR spent on the strat . looking at the article RR designing a gat with gibson and strat specs obviously he was used to that scale length but then maybe tuning down was his thing ???????
bending strings on std pitch is brutal!
wonder why he didnt take a gibson V out ?
in the 80s they also had active pick ups , thats what zak wylde uses on his gats.
be pretty wicked if RR had actives, thered be some crazy harmonics and feedback
