I've been seeing a lot of talk about it, but I've not seen anywhere about what actually makes this different than a regular Distortion+ ? I get that the modern standard one uses silicon, I think, and the old ones used germanium, but like 10 years ago they had released a vintage script version (that I own) and so far besides the paint job, I'm not seeing anything different about this.

I have that "true" script reissue you are talking about and it does sound much better than all the block logo versions, and other reissues previously released. I still have it but haven't played it in a few years. My initial thoughts are the Randy version does sound better on that video above, maybe all placebo :D

Wish I knew it was a limited run, I went to buy one the next day and it was out of stock everywhere already.

Only way to really tell would be a head to head matchup between them, otherwise it's completely a placebo with a polka dot paint job. I'm surprised they haven't mentioned anything being actually different on the RR model as opposed to any vintage D+ or, hell, even just saying how it's different than the block logo version. Kind of leads me to believe there really isn't anything special about the innards of it, otherwise it would have been a marketing point of some sort (1959RR amp with the cascade mod, anyone? 1-shot blue paint job on the Concorde replica?) and instead we just get some vague "copied directly from Randy's original pedal" marketing language.

At the price points I've seen ($169+), I'd expect there to have been something actually special and unique about the innards of the peda (more gain, volume, anything to set it apart)l, instead it's probably just a polka dot paint job on a script logo D+

Looks like Thomann is still taking pre orders for it, if you're interested in trying. https://www.thomannmusic.com/mxr_randy_ ... ortion.htm
but they're marked up to $213, which is strange to me because usually Thomann has the best prices.

Also, where are these "limited to 3200" numbers coming from? I don't see it on Jim Dunlop's site or anywhere on retail websites. I would assume if they were limited like that, they'd all have serial numbers on display

Well, I decided to try my luck and buy one from Thomann. If they do somehow come through and I get one, I'll try to do an A/B test with it and my script D+ reissue I bought a few years back. No idea if they'll actually send me one though.
