LP pick guard - yes or no?

Post by Paul Wolfe »

Okay, so I decided to switch out the pickup rings and toggle switch parts to creme instead of black on the LP I recently bought. Now I am debating on even having the pick guard at all.

I've always preferred a pick guard on a Les Paul, but on this one I think I like it better without... I'd like some opinions if you all don't mind.

By the way, those are not my guitar, I was too lazy to upload pics

My son has a poster of Slash with his tobacco burst LP which has no pick guard, so I'm definitely leaning that way. Waiting on the creme parts from Musician's Friend - didn't order a guard, so I'll see how much I like it without.

Thanks for the reply, by the way.

No problem. I mostly only like pg's on customs. Definitely like the cream rings on the standards and other models also! Pics when you're done!

My friend and I were having this exact conversation the other day. I have to go against the general consensus and say that I like Les Pauls With the pickgaurd on them. There are very few I like better without, Slashs AFD being one of them

Funny that you say you only like the pg on customs... this is a Seville LP copy, not a Gibson and has the distinction of having the binding only on the top - like a standard - and block inlays - like a custom... the rings should be here Monday so I'll put up a pic.

To be honest Paul I think you should leave the guard on it looks sexy

But that's my preference

I like how the guitar plays with out the pickgaurd. THe only Les Paul I would keep it on is RR sig Les Paul. All the rest I would take it off.
