Me and Trigger were talking about this last week. Witht the exception of Randy Rhoads, who is in a class all by himself, I only really put on a bit of ACDC, Led Zeppelin etc when I am playing pool in my local drinking and relaxing.
I have left rock guitar far behind so I completely relate to you wanting to branch out to country. It is so damn cool!!

Paul, Matthew, i understand what you mean.
I play a bit of everything these days and when i think about it i hardly ever listen to metal or rock, truth be told it doesn't get me all that excited anymore. I think one of the reasons for this is the new style of metal these days, any band that does the whole screaming/ thrash thing is a major turn off from my P.O.V. but thats all there is these days... Sometimes i wonder if my interest in metal is maintained only by a secret desire to play at being a rock star
the problem for me is that i feel spoilt for choice. Latin, Jazz, Blues, classical and country, there are so many genres of music and im not sure which i'd rather play.

There is really a whole world out there isn't there.
It has taken me a long time to concsiously narrow down my focus and specialise in something; in my case I have chosen Spanish/Classical Guitar and clean Chet Atkins style electric.
I don't think there is anything I could say that hasn't been said before if I were a rock guitarist.
I do love coaching people who feel it's their personal destinty to be a rock guitarist. I get alot of satisfaction from that...and I do feel a conection with rock and understand it. I just haven't choose it and I don't think it choose me

That is exactly what I want to get away from. I wan to be well-rounded and not feel silly when someone asks me to play guitar and I whip out Crazy Train.
"Old" may be a state of mind, but, to my mind, older guys like me (41) shouldn't still be trying to be closet rock stars. Last week we had a street fair and there was a live band. They were all guys in their 50's playing music from their youth. While it's cool that they still play, they all looked like businessmen playing at being rock stars. The guitarist/singer especially came across like a Mick Jagger wannabe which just came across as sad.
Metal is fine, but it's a young person's music. I simply want to move on. I grew up with country music, rodeos and county fairs. I avoided that stuff for years in my rebellion. Now I realize that's who I am and I'm embracing it.

I'm not going bald even a little, but a few months back I shaved my head during a particularly bad bout of depression. I recovered from the depression and found that I really like having a completely shaved head.
