Wow!! I feel privileged just knowing someone who got to play a '59 sunburst, let alone actually getting the chance to do so!
The vintage Hofners are espeically not so valuable coming from my old boss... 20 years ago, I moved here for a job where I was supposed to be building guitars, but as it turned out he decided to make mandolins instead before laying me off and then closing the shop down a short time later. He was Czech, and bought a bunch of bodies and necks for dirt cheap from the Hofner factory in Germany that were long forgotten and just laying around since 20 years before that. At one point, he had us putting them together (several of them needed to be lacquered even) and was trying to sell them off as vintage Hofners... I think he managed to sell one of them.
