Re: Crazy Train: The high life and tragic death of Randy Rho

I finally purchased and read the book. I wasn't that impressed to be honest, but that stems more from the fact that I already had 80% of everything written in the book. Hell, if I knew that writing a book about a fallen musician only required that you quote 20 different magazines, 30 interviews by o...

Re: Which peice of Randy's music makes you emotional?

You Can't Kill Rock'N'Roll... is a pretty cheesy song lyrically, but the guitar work is incredibly moving and evocative. Subtle harmonics, fills and the ringing echo throughout give it an ethereal feel. Randy's playing compliments Ozzy's voice wonderfully. Tonight is a beautiful song... and the guit...

Re: March 19,1982~Where Were U?

I was 10... 8 days away from my 11th birthday. Randy died on the friday and I think it was the Saturday or Sunday I found out. I was sitting downstairs watching tv with my parents... and my brother came in. He was pretty bumbed out. My Mum asked him what was wrong and he said Randy Rhoads died. My D...

Re: Randy Number 7

I'm rather shocked that people could actually think David Lee Roth and Bruce Dickenson are the greatest frontmen ever... espcially becuase it's just common knowledge that nobody on earth comes close to FREDDIE MERCURY!!!! DAY-OH.... DAY-OH-OHhhhhhh.... I still think this is one of the grea...

Re: So was Randy a genius, or a creative genius?

This is an interesting thread. According to Wikipedia, "a genius is someone embodying exceptional intellectual ability, creativity, or originality, typically to a degree that is associated with the achievement of unprecedented insight." If music is meant to provoke an emotional response, ...

Re: So was Randy a genius, or a creative genius?

I use the term genius loosely for musicians... it's just a good way to categorize them and their specific level of talent. But I don't think a musician can ever be considered a genius in the literal sense of the word. Mozart was not a genius, he was a prodigy. He still had to learn to apply his tale...

Re: Randy Rhoads & Buckethead

I think Randy would have absolutely loved Buckethead... Randy loved Alice Cooper, 70's Glam Rock and was showcasing an androgenous image himself in Quiet Riot... therefore he was extremely open minded to the bizaare gimmicks that came along with Rock n Roll. So the bucket, mask and peculiar behaviou...

"Give us Randy back....!!!!" - Ozzy

Many years ago... literally... around late 1982-3, I remember sitting in my brothers bedroom listening to a Live recording (or broadcast... I am not sure) of Ozzy. At one point during a song or in-between songs, I specifically remember hearing Ozzy scream "Give us Randy Back...!" My brothe...

Re: Randy rumour over at Bob's FB ?

Thanks for the referance. I am not 100% convinced it happened, but certainly on the side that it was likely. I would love to hear Tommy Aldridges side of this, as much as I like reading Kelli Garni's perspectives on Randy, and he was certainly close to him to know very intimate details, theres an is...

Re: WOW this guy plays just like Randy!

I know I'm a new guy here, but I just want to say that one of my BIGGEST pet peeves is seeing a guitar player ape somebody else. I'd be really impressed if he had his own style. Sorry. The cream always rises to the top... those with originality.... the 1%. having the ability to play at least this w...

Re: Why is Warren Demartini underrated?

Mediocre talent in an mediocre band... outplayed and out performed by 20 other bands in the same genre... and outplayed by 50 other guitarists in the same era.
He's not under-rated.
He's right where he belongs.
