Something that strikes me as odd about this guitar and the claims about it, is that in that article he says that the "jumbo frets are still intact".. I always thought it was said that Randy hated jumbo frets and would rip them out of whatever guitars he had and put in really small Fender-like fretwire. If this guitar was indeed being made for Randy, then why would it have jumbo frets on it?

The only explaination I could think of, and I think this is historically correct.. Is that Randy died before this guitar was completed. So, if the frets had not been installed yet maybe they just threw some jumbos on there when they finished it out. I'm just speculating of course, but that "jumbo fret" comment doesn't jive with me.

Anyone know when Randy paid for these Jacksons he never recieved? I would think he'd pay (At least some of it) upfront, so wouldn't it be illegal for Grover to sell these to someone else? (Unless he refunded the Rhoads family)

Vinnie Vincent of Kiss was the first guitarist to be offered the guitar by Jackson after Rhoads' death (Rhoads had received two of his own models, one in black and one in white (with gold hardware), and never really became famous for it at the time), Vinnie Vincent used it on the Kiss Creatures of the Night and Lick It Up tours from 1982 until 1984. Once Vinnie left Kiss he modified the Rhoads V design, adding a second shadow V at an offset angle behind the front V. Jackson made at least 3 of these Vinnie Vincent modified Rhoads Vs from 1985 to 1988 for Vinnie (and about 25 others were custom ordered and sold) and later the design was copied by Carvin, Ibanez and Washburn Guitars for Vinnie Vincent.

In 2001, Alexi Laiho and Roope Latvala (currently guitarists of Children of Bodom, but at the time Latvala was in Sinergy alongside Laiho) had a deal with Jackson to produce their line of signature RR's, which had specs of alder bodies, bolt-on necks, 24 frets with a rosewood fretboard, black with yellow bevels, and a Jackson JT580LP Floyd Rose bridge. This guitar was called the Jackson Randy Rhoads L/L (L/L stands for Latvala/Laiho). However, neither guitarist was allowed a guitar for his own use, and both only got to play the guitar for promotional purposes.

I Remember Vinnie Vincent Playing A Gold Jaackson-RR On the Last Show in Makeup 82-83 & He Played a Pink Jackson-RR in the Lick it Up Video in 83,So He was Using them early on!!Now the story in this article seems Legit & pretty similar to Grover Jacksons Version of the Story.I was lookin through my Brothers Guitar Mags & was Shocked to see this having Never heard of it being a active member of RRTK since it started in 03-04??? But Looking at the headstock (the jackson logo) & having no serial # & the strory & the fact it was Publlished in such a Leggit Magazine,its not eactly known for Guitar Wolrd to print BS as far as I I know.....Wait I take that back,didnt they print that QR Singer Diss'es RR???after he declined PM's doc???Well either way,I think it is Randys/ this is the Issue it was in.

I'm not buying that GW story , it says that "Jackson prepared the guitar for the NAMM show in 1984 .. " yet Vinnie Vincent had his in 1982 , to me that seems more like it would be the guitar . I found this on Grover Jacksons FB page :

David Johan: I have been trying
very hard to authenticate my jackson randy rhoads guitar. After
speaking with the Jackson marketing department at fender music I was
able to date the guitar as sometime before 1984 probably around an
82. The guitar has no serial numbers, I bought the guitar from La Habra
... music in the mid 80's and was... told the guitar was being built for Randy
when he died. It seems you are the only person alive that can authenticate
the story of this guitar as no other person or professional has
been able to help. I have photos.See More

Grover Jackson : Hi David - Please post some pics when you can. I can't speak for Grover but based on similar requests he's had before, it would likely take a lot of time to confirm this. If it was a matter of looking up a serial #, I'm sure he'd gladly do ...it for you for free. The work involved to verify this guitar and (presumably) stake his reputation on a letter of authenticity would be extensive - you'd probably have to hire his services. Also, he might conclude that it's definitely not one of Randy's. If it's still of intererest, let me know and I'll put the two of you in touch. - Steve (admin).See More

They said it sat for awhile on the shelf at Jackson guitars. After his death they threw it together and it ended up at La ...Habra music store. I'm playing it in this photo. I also put a different locking system on the top of the neck for a tour I just had recently. I will post the pictures on my site right now.
The original lock was black so don't get confused when you see it now.
I also had the guitar painted a different red color.

So perhaps Grover had a few of these guitars "with out " a serial # , ready for Randy , Trade shows whatever .. The magazine article also says that this dudes ( in the article) guitar had jumbo frets , Randy did'nt like jumbo fretwire and preferred Dunlop # 6230 ( which is what his 2 Jackson Concords had )

Thanks for the above, Ritchie...the plot thickens, eh? I wonder if they'll ever get to the bottom of it?
On/off topic does the Rhoads estate get anything from Jackson guitars? I know that's somewhat of a personal question and probably none of our business, but I was just curious, as Randy, (or at least his design), played a significant part in helping the company become what it is today.

I think it is legit, the guy ended up with it by accident or something like that and had Grover Jackson to back him up. Surprised you guys missed it, they had an entire bashing session about that guy and that article on rr.tk. I think they called him every name in the book they could think of, quite a site to behold, lol.

vinnie vincent never had possession of the sean clegg jackson...there were a bunch of no serial numbers
jacksons that got out before the official commercial series hit the stores in mid-late 83...I remember seeing one in 83 in the window of a music store.It was black and killer.VV's double wing jacksons are very rare also.
