Does anyone here use eMule? I have it installed on my computer and have used it when I am looking for a song that I cannot find anywhere else. You know, as a file sharing system which is what it was intended to be used for.
Well my son came to visit and apparently wanted some Playstation 2 games and decided to try downloading them through eMule. The result was 4 emails (one per file) from Comcast about copyright infringement violations. So eMule is coming off my computer today.
What happened to our society? We used to be able to buy something and share it witha anyone we wanted to. Now we get to buy a "liscense to use" something and can't share it within our own homes. I agree that the people who make the products might lose some money if everyone pirated everything, but I disagree with the way they are dealing with it.
If "they" would make things - software, video games, etc. - affordable, then the pirating would dropp dramatically. I firmly believe that a LOT of the pirating is done by folks who simply cannot afford to pay the price. There is the argument that if you cannot afford it, you shouldn't have it, but that defeats the concept of sharing. If someone purchases something and wants to share it, I feel that they should have the right to do that.
Anyway, end of rant.

totally agree, and its the same with lots of things, if the fat cats of society wud drop there profits by a slight amount so all of us could afford it, then it would be better. as for your emails, i had a threatening one from a company who were complaining about copyright infringement when i had a valid license key

Web Neutrality
There are lots of things wrong with this world and "sharing" as perceived by corporations is one of them. I'm sure there will always be some type of underground movement where everyone will still share stuff; but they just won't advertise it publically. Web neutrality is one such issue we should all agree on. I would hate for alll the "poor" people to have limited access to the internet while the rich and powerful consume all the knowlege.
