I've been a Randy fan since the beginning -- Never once did I notice the white versus black tone and volume knobs on the PDV

and in the end... who wants to go through the search anyways? it takes a fair bit of time especially if you type in "knobs" might come up with more than just a guitar knob :P Then its

Feel free to ask questions! The search function is okay, but any discussion that gets away from the "box" is more than welcome in my opinion!

The oldtimers around here often spout off about continuing Randy's "legacy" and then talk smack when newcomers ask questions...

Sorry, Jay, but that was uncalled for. How are the new kids gonna keep the candle burning if we offend them when they inquire?
Ok i'll rephrase the comment, how about start a thread without a misleading title to get peoples attention like renaming the thread something like"Whats with Randy's knob" or something like that  Hey I'm all for questions just post without the misleading titles-it's lame .Or maybe I'm the one who's lame and should take so geritol and calm down

Hey, I can be a bit of a knob myself, ask anyone!

Sorry for busting your balls, Jay, it's just a pet peeve of mine when message board members - on any subject, not just here - use the pat answer, "Use the Search Function". The search often leads to SO MANY threads that it'd take a week to find the answer you want. Sure, you might come across something you'd never thought of, but you also might miss the answer you're looking for out of sheer volume. It's so easy to simply answer the question or comment on the subject and be friendly and welcoming. If the MODs feel there are too many threads on a subject, they can merge or delete as needed.

I must admit, I was drawn in by the misleading title ("Wow, there was a controversy with the V? Controversies are cool and lead to heated bitching and flaming, I gotta check this out!" :D). A simple, straight-forward question as a title should get enough views from the membership here to get a short discussion of the subject. Not all threads can go to 15 pages, but 2 or three comments on a subject like this is respectable, and it might lead to a longer discussion (such as the case here).

Wasn't the polk-a-dot flying V damaged at some point. I recall reading somewhere that Randy broke the neck accidently. Could the change in bridge, Volume knobs etc been a part of the repair work?

I think the changes were done at a different time... the neck breakage was during the Quiet Riot years and the knobs were changed in the Ozzy era...

Great job dredging up old topics! It shows you did some digging into the archives.

Paul i like a good old dredge its good to look at the oldest threads in the topics and shift through them. Some good stuff has been pulled out of the 'archives' in the past. This forum isn't just for the latest topics, it's worth pulling out a few to living the board up when nothing much is happening.

I agree, I actually meant "great job" as praise! Too many people say, "This may have been discussed before..." but Mr. Scratch is digging around in the archives to learn about what we've discussed and then adding his 2 cents, I think that's wonderful. More of us should dredge the archives from time to time, even if it's only to experience the wisdom of my previous posts

lol

The search function isn't very productive, especially if some of the words one is searching for are common, then many of the results that come in are redundant (especially if there are numerous replies tied in with quotes that repeat any of the search terms) and/or posts that are not even related to the search.

And I know from my own personal experience that it can take a minute to adjust to a particular layout of a message board- before noticing perks like the search function.

Let's keep Randy's memory alive however we can- and share in the love:)
If someone thinks that love and peace is a cliche that must have been left behind in the Sixties, that's his problem. Love and peace are eternal. John Lennon
