Came across something interesting I read earlier today. It was a quote from Randy when asked about the Spotlight solo during his 2/2/82 clinic in PA. The person asked if his solo is improvised or not. Randy said it's pretty much the same every night, however, on nights when he feels his tone is not that great, he trims down and leaves out certain parts. On nights when his tone is great, he plays the longer version.
On the new live LP, I think his tone on the Spotlight solo is kind of weak, so that might explain why we are hearing the abbreviated version.
