Eh Up,

Sorry about this one, but I'm using a Harley Benton GA5 head through two Celestion 1x12 cabs, my RRT-1 standard pedal, little bit of delay and a Gibson Les Paul Custom.

Started looking at learning it yesterday, so it is VERY bad.

Enjoy.....hahahaha

Hi Plate

You sound like you have the sections all compartmentalised and ready to improve. If that is what you have learned from yesterday, then you should have it nailed tomorrow by that rate!!!

Plate I have often wondered about the Harley Bentley amps, they look just like the Epi Valve junior amps; are they made the same place?

Rob (Rice Pudding) and me love our Epi Valve junior gear!

Hi Matt,

The Harley Benton was a bargain off E-bay (£50 isn't too bad..!). I have modified it somewhat to produce more gain and brightness by replacing a few resistors and the volume/eq pots/caps.

As for made at the same place, my PCB has "Valve J" on it; with the rest of the lettering roughly sanded off the board (I have heard others say the same). The mods for both of them are exactly the same, with the main difference being the tonestack (which does sap some of the gain). If you want some info on how to mod you VJ, this is a good read:

http://www.s2amps.com/docs/vj_kit_inst.pdf

I got a bit excited about the noise coming from the HB (I own a Haze 15 stack and 1982 JCM800 2204 head as well) as it was so "old plexi" sounding at very low volume (the clip is at 1 on the master...!!!!); so posted the solo when I knew it wasn't anywhere near complete.....Anyway, it's been sorted out now and just needed a bit of work on Randy's style and touches, so I'm going to post a revised version shortly.

I tend to favour a lot of RR, early EVH and Lynch style-wise, so the plexi roar suits my needs just fine.

If you want any more details on my mods, just let me know.......

Take it easy.

Flying High Again Solo- V2.

Post by ptate »

This is probably as good as I'll get it in three days with no backing track and after a day at work with two youngsters running around.......Ah well.......Don't worry, I'm not going to post any more clips of this one.....haha

Miked at 3 feet, in a messy spare room, using my GA5, RRT-1 standard and an old, Japanese Boss RV2.

Cheers:

Dokken Breaking the Chains Solo

Post by ptate »

One of the best solos of the eighties for tone and musicality.

Lynch was at the forefront of the shredding era along with Randy and EVH. In fact, I believe that RR thought he was a decent player (someone correct me if I'm wrong?).

Tried to do it justice, but what the hell.......... Played using the Harley Benton GA5 (modded), RRT-1 pedal and my white Gibbo LP Custom. Master Volume at 1, with gain at 9, Eq at 7.

Dokken Its not Love Solo

Post by ptate »

Like it says on the tin.

Quite like the tone on this one, but it's got an annoying hum from somewhere....Sorry.

No More Tears Solo

Post by ptate »

I enjoy the "blues" feel of this solo and the build in tempo to the end.

Zakk is massively underated as a guitarist (in the general scheme of things) and I still can't believe that he's been replaced by yet "another" arpeggio shredder......

A feeble attempt at the solo. Only started learning it yesterday after realising how good it actually is (duh.!!!!).

Amazing way of structuring great solo's that fit the songs just right. Genius.

Mr Crowley Solo One

Post by ptate »

Sorry about the quality of the recording, but it was done with my mobile phone whilst playing earlier on.

I'll record a proper version and stick it on later this week.

Cheers.

Good stuff Pete. The tone you're cracking out of that Les Paul with the RR-T pedal is really stunning. I've still got to get round to doing those vids. I've got a couple of audio clips, but I want some videos of me demonstrating the versatility of the pedal. I noticed it got some cracking reviews on other sites.

The other day, I had it running through my 20+ year old Peavey Bravo full valve amp and I was getting some stunning tones! :)
