I had been wondering the same thing? has it been fixed OR is this a repro to keep the outfit looking fresh, that guitar looked really shabby the last time I saw it.
Great display though and thanks for sharing the info
+ another fool
it looks in good condition i'd heard it got royaly trashed by the sunlight.
they need a randy waxwork!
i just hope they dont leave that out in the sun as well
Check the white dots they all turned yellow. As like in the Japan vid.
However the damnage to the paint seems to be fixed a bit. I think it's the real thing but I can't say for sure.
I agree with some that the presentation could be a little better, a big wall poster from the Ozzy area would be a great improvement! And I much rather see some of his Ozzy stage clothes, that's where he became famous with. And these looked a lot cooler. (imo)

It is the nearest you'll ever get to seeing him. Without seeing him in the flesh if you understand what i'm getting at. Does the display have any literature on what the items are i.e RR Quiet Riot stage outfit etc.. I know you must of been in awe to be next to the PDV.Your very lucky that you have getting the chance to see 2 of his guitars. You did see his White Jackson ?.But i think they could of done a much better job with a few photos and a bit of history on those pieces of awesome Rock memorabilia. I read that Cliff Burton's Rickenbacker bass 4001 guitar is on display. Metallica have just been inducted to the R'nR Hall of Fame i heard about a film of the bands history being played etc. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=532921
They should of done the same with Randy. But thanks for posting those pics up Tom i think it's the nearest i'll ever get to seeing any of RR guitars, in the future ? maybe ?..
Hi Shaun, I think if I would have seen any more it would have been overkill and my head would have exploded. seriously though..
I know what you mean about the closest thing to seeing Randy. When I saw Randy I was standing over closer to Rudy Sarzo about 25 ft back but my eves were glued to Randy the whole concert.. So at the hall of fame I stood in about the same spot looking at the V for a while. It helped ignite the memories of seeing him.
The display if you look at the first picture posted in the thread there are 2 small plaques to the right towards the bottom. The first talks about Randy getting the guitar made. The 2nd talks about his time with Ozzy and just mentions up to his death in 82.
In general the rock hall could be better in many ways for a lot of displays. They have permanent ones there that are pretty good but for Randy's sure could be way better. I would love to have seen again the Dairy Vest, also his guitar strap with this guitar. Could you imagaine seeing that all put together hanging there. That would be quite breaktaking. I hope we see all of this in the documentary. One thing that sticks in my mind is the black tape that is on the side of the top wing. You could see where it was coming up from Randy arm rubbing it in the center of the wing where his arm rested for picking. I wanted to get more but I wanted to not get caught and at least walk away with a great shot. I will go back casue my parents lives close to it..

Pat i don't think the damage was as bad as some people tried to make out. The pics of the close up damage to the guitar look alot worse (Jap Docu). I think it's just the way the light has reflected from the guitar. As Tom has mentioned if it was that bad it be obviously noticable in his pics. All i want now is for the guitar to go on a world tour so we all can see it. Cleveland is too far away for most, so it will have to make its way to the Centre of Life Newcastle UK. They have a Rock music exhibition on at the moment...Delores how much is the shipping to the UK i'll cover that

Lets not forget as well GI, it was what Randy did in Britain that made him into the star he became we deserve a good look at his guitars they haven't been here since 1981.

I like the way you bring the guitar to life when your describing it. Those little things like wear on the tape and you mentioned red staining on the back of the guitar. Which i imagine is from his red leather trousers rubbing on the guitar. Imagine if someone cleaned the guitar and removed all these tell tale signs.
Tom those cannot be the original strings on the guitar ?. Did you notice any fret wire wear on the strings from the guitar being played ?.Plus Ozzy did mention about how the strings on the guitar had rusted over time. That was when they removed the guitar from its case for the first time since RR had played it. That's when they used it for the 'Crazy Train' video in 1987 ?.
The Japanese Documentary filmed Randys guitar with the glare of the light. The lines are visible if you look at it in the glare. If you look straight on it's hard to see them.
The strings may have been changed , there is no fret ware . I studied every part of the guitar I could get to 3 inches away for 2 hours literally. Though if they were changed Randy's last performance , Ozzy may have embellished a bit. When I saw the Pinstripe at Northridge college, they are in the same condidtion as those.. The yellow dots are worse than others in some spots.. yellowish.. thanks Shaun for the kind words.. Tom
