You know Mr. B. Connery, this is the best evidence to date backing the existence of a supreme! I have to admit, nothing else even comes close... LOLMatthew wrote:

i know this thread has pretty much died a slow, painful, horrible death... but i wanted to post this for Matty, since he was interested, and no matter what you're beliefs may be, this is at least beautifully written and can be respected at least for the sheer poetry of it:
The Wiccan Rede
Bide within the Law you must, in perfect Love and perfect Trust.
Live you must and let to live, fairly take and fairly give.
For tread the Circle thrice about to keep unwelcome spirits out.
To bind the spell well every time, let the spell be said in rhyme.
Light of eye and soft of touch, speak you little, listen much.
Honor the Old Ones in deed and name,
let love and light be our guides again.
Deosil go by the waxing moon, chanting out the joyful tune.
Widdershins go when the moon doth wane,
and the werewolf howls by the dread wolfsbane.
When the Lady's moon is new, kiss the hand to Her times two.
When the moon rides at Her peak then your heart's desire seek.
Heed the North winds mighty gale, lock the door and trim the sail.
When the Wind blows from the East, expect the new and set the feast.
When the wind comes from the South, love will kiss you on the mouth.
When the wind whispers from the West, all hearts will find peace and rest.
Nine woods in the Cauldron go, burn them fast and burn them slow.
Birch in the fire goes to represent what the Lady knows.
Oak in the forest towers with might, in the fire it brings the God's
insight. Rowan is a tree of power causing life and magick to flower.
Willows at the waterside stand ready to help us to the Summerland.
Hawthorn is burned to purify and to draw faerie to your eye.
Hazel-the tree of wisdom and learning adds its strength to the bright fire burning.
White are the flowers of Apple tree that brings us fruits of fertility.
Grapes grow upon the vine giving us both joy and wine.
Fir does mark the evergreen to represent immortality seen.
Elder is the Lady's tree burn it not or cursed you'll be.
Four times the Major Sabbats mark in the light and in the dark.
As the old year starts to wane the new begins, it's now Samhain.
When the time for Imbolc shows watch for flowers through the snows.
When the wheel begins to turn soon the Beltane fires will burn.
As the wheel turns to Lamas night power is brought to magick rite.
Four times the Minor Sabbats fall use the Sun to mark them all.
When the wheel has turned to Yule light the log the Horned One rules.
In the spring, when night equals day time for Ostara to come our way.
When the Sun has reached it's height time for Oak and Holly to fight.
Harvesting comes to one and all when the Autumn Equinox does fall.
Heed the flower, bush, and tree by the Lady blessed you'll be.
Where the rippling waters go cast a stone, the truth you'll know.
When you have and hold a need, harken not to others greed.
With a fool no season spend or be counted as his friend.
Merry Meet and Merry Part bright the cheeks and warm the heart.
Mind the Three-fold Laws you should three times bad and three times good.
When misfortune is enow wear the star upon your brow.
Be true in love this you must do unless your love is false to you.
These Eight words the Rede fulfill:
"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Matt (and anyone else who was interested) - here is the Principles of Wiccan Belief written and adopted by the Council of American Witches circa 1974
Principles of Wiccan Beliefs
1. We practice rites to attune ourselves with the natural rhythm of life forces marked by the phases of the Moon and the seasonal Quarters and Cross Quarter.
2. We recognize that our intelligence gives us a unique responsibility toward our environment. We seek to live in harmony with Nature, in ecological balance offering fulfillment to life and consciousness within an evolutionary concept.
3. We acknowledge a depth of power far greater than that apparent to the average person. Because it is far greater than ordinary it is sometimes called supernatural, but we see it as lying within that which is naturally potential to all.
4. We conceive of the Creative Power in the universe as manifesting through polarity — as masculine and feminine — and that this same Creative Power lies in all people, and functions through the interaction of the masculine and feminine. We value neither above the other, knowing each to be supportive to the other. We value sex as pleasure, as the symbol and embodiment of life, and as one of the sources of energies used in magickal practice and religious worship.
5. We recognize both outer worlds and inner, or psychological, worlds sometimes known as the Spiritual World, the Collective Unconscious, Inner Planes, etc. — and we see in the inter-action of these two dimensions the basis for paranormal phenomena and magickal exercises. We neglect neither dimension for the other, seeing both as necessary for our fulfillment.
6. We do not recognize any authoritarian hierarchy, but do honor those who teach, respect those who share their greater knowledge and wisdom, and acknowledge those who have courageously given of themselves in leadership.
7. We see religion, magick and wisdom in living as being united in the way one views the world and lives within it — a world view and philosophy of life which we identify as Witchcraft — the Wiccan Way.
8. Calling oneself “Witchâ€

well, it's kind of a tricky subject. I think some people just USE the word "satanist" to actually describe "devilworshipping" (uninformed fat goth kids. lol)- but LaVey's actual "Church of Satan" and the term "satanist" as defined by the Church of Satan, is about ego. There is no belief in God... and if you don't believe in god you don't believe in Satan... you can't have one without the other. Someone cant say well, i dont believe in God, but i do believe in Satan, you follow?
Now, before i go any further i would like to state that I am not a satanist. I am only educated on the subject, because as i stated earlier int he thread i cam eot where i am after alot of soul searching. I have studied and tried to learn as much as i could about ALLL religions over the years, because i wanted to make an informed decision...
Wikipedia actually has a pretty good article that sort of touches on the differences when it comes to the term "satanism"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satanism
and they also offer a pretty decent general description about the actual Church of Satan
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_Satan
I am posting this stuff for informational purposes only. For me personally? It's just not my cup of tea. I had no spiritual connections to their beleifs and it's too much of a dark outlook on the world in my opinion. But what i DO believe in is being educated on subjects when forming opinions on them, so thats why i said that lavey's satanism" wasnt about "the devil" at all. noe this is not to say that You, Zakk, and me for that matter won't still come to the same conclusion that zakk came to a few posts up - he probably would still feel the same way about it even after finding out everything about it - but AT LEAST he will have arrived to that conclusion based on the facts and not the superstitions and tall tales, you know?
my conclusion is pretty much along the lines of Zakks. my earlier post was just sarcasm/joking playing off of McLowreys. Just thought the thread needed some lightning up

What did you think of the Charge of the Goddess and the Wiccan Rede, Nicole? Beautifully written at the very least, right? I like things like that that make me feel positive about the world, and not negative that the Church of Satan, personally

Interesting reads!
I have to say though...that some of those rules in the Church of Satan have me giggling like the ones that exhort those to destroy people that annoy you.
Just the use of "destroy" I think to be pretty funny. As if one of those fat goth, cape wearing girls could really destroy ANYTHING.
Its not my cup o' tea either really, and like Scientology, I have a hard time accepting it as a real religion. It's much too violent for me. That's not to say other religions don't have elements of violence in them, but alas, none of them say to destroy others that annoy you.
Wiccanism is another thing though. I knew a girl in high school who was Wiccan. While I won't go to say that we were friends, but she was always very kind and she seemed very much at peace with everything, which is what religion really is or should be. Religion is something that should bring people peace of mind and serenity. Which is why I hardly consider Satanism to be a religion because I think it probably does the opposite. However, I know Christianity brings people down. I know lots and lots of people who have extreme guilt and shame problems because of how they were brought up in the church and it leads to drug problems, promiscuity, etc. I think if someone wants to be a Christian, that's all great and wonderful but they need to be on their guard...I think a lot of churches squash people, that's all.
I thought Wiccan Rede was very reminiscent of something that JRR Tolkien would write, very mystical and earthy, etc. (I love JRR Tolkien, btw).
