Any VW nuts here?!! UPDATED; SUN 28th MAY 2006

Post by Trigger »

I am a huge lover of those old school air cooled VW's. I have a few in my set the oldest being a 1951 bug a 1955, 1966, 1971 and a very cool 1964 delivery van.

I wondered if any of you had a VW fetish and what VW’s you, your friends or family have? Put a few photos up if you wish..... Its coming up to summer time and this is when all the best VW shows start happening. I will be at my first air cooled VW show on Sunday and I'm counting down the hours until the gates open! 8)

Although it was a Nazi idea the car was only made possible because the British Army developed the design in 1945. Which means that for about 5 years VW was a British company. But we gave it back to the German Government when we couldn't find a buyer, we thought VW was not a good enough company to ever make a profit. HOW WRONG WERE WE!!!!!!

Didn't Germany have the VW before 1945?

Yes but it was a very different car and working ethic to what the British created in the VW company in 1945. After the British took the factory it became part of the Armies Engeneers Corps they then supplied caqrs for the Army & police across West Germany.

Yeah I had my VW days, early-mid 80's......I had both the pick up truck and the Wolfsburg Edition convertible Golf (Rabbitt in the USA). Both were very fast and real fun to drive! Had to really maintain them though. They had a weird electro-mechanical fuel injection system that was really quite brilliant a design. but hard to maintain...if pne of the many sensors went out it through the whole thing out of whack. Wheel bearings were another thing that frequently needed fixing. Fun cars though! :D
