What's the best approach to purchase Randy Rhoads-Ozzy era ?

Post by comatorium »

Hi folks, :)

You may already noticed, that I get down to business now purchasing
Randy's complete discography of the ozzy era.
It's just a duty for enthusiastic guitarists, well, but enough small
talk at this spot.

It's clear to me what albums I have to buy for this... but all these
reissues, collectors editions, re-releases, remasters. etc. are so
confusing ! :?
I've already noticed that obviously for Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a
madman the 2002-release sucks and thus should be avoided, but
does that also applies to the Tribute album ???
I attach great importance to sound quality ! The best is just enough !
So if there is a remastered, which sounds better than original release
AND IS UNEDITED !!! I'd prefer this version. And I don't have any
opportunities to playback vinyl, so I could just purchase it in form
of CDs ! And of course, just official releases ! No bootlegs, self-tinkered
burnt CDs, CD-Rs, etc. ...
Certainly a topic revealing much potential to talk about... particularly
due to the current 'level war' in music business and stuff like that,
but maybe another time. This is how I would purchase this
range of Randy's producing phase:
any suggestions to improve this approach to purchase Randy Rhoads-Ozzy era ?

Hey,
firstly, it is wrong to purchase the 2002 version of Blizzard of Ozz or Diary of a Madman, because the original bass tracks and drums were removed and a new drummer and bass were added, so you would not be getting an original recording. The 1995 Remastered, is the one with Ozzy down the side, correct? if so... correct, that is a good recording of the album. Also, Diary of a madman, with Ozzy down the side which was also remastered before 2002 is a good one. I actually have the Tribute album from 2002, and it sounds very very good and is much better than the bootleg from the free audio section. He sounds a little dry, I think. But anyway, its your choice ;)

Aaaah, yes. Thank you for the feedback, so far.
So it's harmless to purchase the 2002-version of Tribute...
Is your recommendation based on comparisions of different
CD versions like the 1995 release of 'Tribute' ?
Anway, phew, that simplifies my plans... just alone without Tribute
and the EP it's hard enough to get the prefered versions.
amazon.com is full of them, but I come from germany and
amazon.de ... well, I guess I should stick to ebay according to
this issue and carrying much patience along with me  ...

And what about the Mr. Crowley Live EP I've spotted ?
I can't help it, but somehow that smells like swindle to me  ...
what do you think about it ?

I thought you could only get the Mr Crowley live E.P. on vinyl? I don't know though, there may be a cd version that i've just never seen. There are probably bootleg versions of it on cd but then again you said you don't want bootlegs... Did it take you long to find the 1995 versions of Blizzard and Diary?? I've been looking for ages and not found either.

omg, well sounds like having fun when trying to get both 1995 versions. xD
Well, what have you already tried ? You may already noticed that
amazon.com is flooded by these versions. If you have contact to
someone from the US - friend, relative, forum mate, etc. - just
request the items at this person, and he could offer it on ebay.
I've already done that with the Live EP ... of the mars volta ;)
and it worked smooth and ideal. Image
But I think it's doable to get it... I already had tougher cases ;) ...

You Said It All was released as a B-Side on the Crazy Babies CD single; The Live EP was also released on cassette.

I think that RAndy shines best on the live Boots you get the real pure talent that was Randy. I find the Tribute album a little over produced but some of those boots are amazing and very exiting to hear for the first time. Every show you hear seems to have extra riffs that you are not expecting. 8)

A picture disk is a vinyl with a picture on the front, its a simple as that :D. If you look on ebay your likely to find a picture disk, which is what im looking at right now ;)
