Peavey Windsor

Im thinking about buying the halfstack. Has anyone ever tried it? If so can you give me all the juicy details? Is it gig capable? I really want a tube amp, and its like the only halfstack in my range of money.

i like the look of them and they got a good review in guitar world, ill dig it out if you want. But people have said they have reliability issues.

should be gig capable.

yeah, that would be great! thanks. I also like the white Marshall half stack, i think its the MGhdfx or something like that but its solid state and i read that after a couple of months it starts to get a loud buzz.It goes for 599.99, when I first saw it I immediately went "Randy Rhoads!" and then a couple of months later there is a 1959RR! ahaha. So I think Ill go with the Windsor. Well it seems that after a year or so after it being out they might have fixed some reliability issues they had with it.

I thought about picking one up for the price tag. Either that or the Peavey XXX. That review would be super nice to see, Puds!

Ok heres the guitar world review, this is the second half or the review (and most important IMO) I'll post the rest later:

"The windsor is no teatotler. Even with the gain knob turned down it produced a fair amount of saturation. Its first gain stage was also easily overdiriven by a moderatly loud pickup. For these reasons proper input selection is the key to unlocking the windsors best tones.

As you might expect, a brilliant upper-midrange dominates the character. Still, i wouldn't describe the amp as bright. Its midrange spikes contribute to punchy chords and percussive single notes that feel powerfull. These qualitys make the windsor well suited to dark and warm guitars. Point in fact my vintage lesp paul junior sounded especialy chunky and aggresive through this amp. At times however i felt the high end was too fin, compared to stout midrange and hammering lows.

If you want to alter the amps personality altogether the texture knob is your best ally. Settings in the class A range lend a gentler vintage voice. While the class A/B side of the dial unleashes hostility. The boost is another interesting feature. Activating this circuit unleashes a torent of midrange gain, giving brassy tone somewhat reminiscent of a plexi.

Bottom line
numerous amp manufacturers have attempted to build low cost all tube heads producing authentic British tones, the the peavey windsor is the first amp, in my expierience, that truly delivers on the promise. Its midrange barks like the hound of the baskervilles, its lows track without compromise and it easily sustains into harmonic feedback. If you looking for a kickass rock amp at a bargain price look no further.

Cons; highs could be rounder, no reverb

Pros; aggresive, authentic british tone, texture control, price"

And you know, Marshall MGs aren't too bad, if you can keep them at 4 and lower.

No way I'd get a halfstack of those though.

i recently sold mine. I had a 50watt and it was ok. But compared to amps of a similar price it gets beat IMO. I think the larger MG combos sound better.

I played a 15watt MG and im afraid to say its the worst amp i've ever played.

very sick amp! under 600 dollars? what a crazy emmer effer. Its like 700 something on Musiciansfriend. Is he playing an EVH wolfgang? I really like the tone that comes out of that amp.
