Okay, the crazy notion of wanting to create a website has crept into my brain.
Can anyone suggest quality web design/publishing software? If money isn't a worry, what should I get? Within reason (under $500).

Yeah.. if you want to create a website, you need a hosting and FTP program too.. You need help with that?
I currently got no hosting at all, my serverpark in amsterdam is down
I suggest Dreamweaver.. But I would not buy it, it costs just too much
You have a good budget tough.. but I've created all my website's from scratch, using some own-build CMS = Free
Are you new to the webdesigners world, Paul?

yes I know.. but I think these programs have more features and are easier to use in the end. I would recommend SmartFTP, cause I use it myself and I've never had any problems with it
Look around first, if you are going to buy Dreamweaver, some people do get these software free from work.. Ask around
But buying is a great way to support the creators tough

It's something I'm curious about.
I think it'd be fun to set up a site and run it... become hugely popular and then sell a share of it to Microsoft for a king's ransom and be rich beyond my wildest dreams...
At least I'm curious about it.
I'm a TextPad man myself.
I was hired to create a website about 10 years ago. The one experience was enough. I believe it is more a artistic thing than having any great technical knowhow. For everything I did back in those days a simple text editor was all that was needed.
Good luck Paul and share your results. I have to say I did enjoy the instant gratification aspect of web development.
