Help me bend!

Post by Supernaut »

My strings yes. You my remember the Cliff Burton video I posted. How the hell does he get such high notes out of the D-string by bending it? I can't! Is there something I'm doing wrong? cheers!

I think you just have to get your fingers really really strong, Just keeping practising bending the strings (if you do them on the e string you'll probably get stronger faster).

I guess it's like me with my little finger, at the moment it's not quite strong enough to keep up with the others at times so I practise playing Sabbath songs with just my index finger and little finger, War Pigs is pretty hard because it's long and there are a lot of power chords and stuff (holding down 2 of the lower strings with my little finger for long periods of time can hurt!). Because I can only use those fingers I have to do some weird stretches that I probably shouldn't be doing and may damage me but hey, it's working. (I do Sabbath songs because the chords don't need many fingers and they aren't too hard to play).

He might be doing artificial harmonics. I guess the distortion allows him to do things like that.

How many fingers are you using?

it's easier if you use all your fingers to bend.
so if you're bending at fret 7 put your bending finger on the string (whichever is best for the phrase you're playing) and also put other behind it.
e.g. you're bending at fret 7 put your third finger in the string and then put you 2nd and index finger on the frets behind, then use all the strength in these 3 fingers to bend. It'll be a lot easier and you'll be able to get some really good bends.
