Guitarists, list your 5 main influences !

Post by Stiltzkin »

Not in any special order:

Jake E Lee:
The first connection I had with Ozzy's music.
The BATM concert from SLC 1984 is absolutely amazing :!:
I love his raw Badlands tone as well :)

George Lynch:
Although Dokken in general was/is kinda cheesy,
George is one of the best players alive today :!:

Zakk Wylde:
He's brutal enough to take over the world :D

Marty Friedman:
What can I say ... Marty is a very different guitarplayer.
Very exotic :!:

Yngwie Malmsteen:
A little something for my swedish homie.
Although he's more american than swedish now.
Yngwie is what got me into classical music in general.

Well ill give this a shot eh?

1. Randy Rhoads - Well What Can I Say.. He's A Clean Guitarist, He's Fast, Musically Talentented, And Of Course He's Just One Of The Best I've Ever Seen Play The Guitar. An Absolute Idol Of Mine. There Aren't Words To Describe His Brilliance On Stage And In The Studio. He Gave You A Reason To Play Guitar, And He Gave Us All A Reason To Continue His Dream. He Played Guitar From The Soul And He Awoke The Fire In Millions To Become What We Want To Become. He Was Brilliant And Will Be Sadly Missed. His Short Time On The Music World Left One Of The Biggest Imprints That Rival Even The Best Guitarists Out there.. R.I.P My Idol!

2. Vivian Campbell/Jake E Lee - Vivian Back In His Dio Days Was The Epitome Of Guitar. He Was Fast, Had Feeling, And Co-Wrote The Best Dio Songs Out There. Not To Mention He Was Very Dedicated To His Playing. Its Too Bad He Decided Lead Wasn't For Him. Jake.. Wow With Ozzy He Put Out Incredible Albums And With The Badlands He Showed His Roots. He Was A Talented Flexible Guitarist. Too Bad About His Ego Though. He Still Is One Of The Best

3. Criss Oliva/Tracii Guns - Criss.. He Deserves Higher On My List, But The Only Problem Is Outside Of Savatage You Couldn't Hear Much Of Him. He Had Amazing Stage Presence, And Was Definatly A Skilled Guitarist. He Was A Guitarist That Proved That Hes Not A Pushover Copy Of Michael Or Randy. He Showed His Influences In His Solos But Most Importantly.. He Was An Individual Who Really Brought Out The Best In Everyone He Played With. R.I.P Criss. Tracii.. People Say He May Not Be The Best. But He Is To Me. He Was A Hard Rock Icon With Great Guitar Work But Poor Business Decisions. He Showed His Talent And His True Skills With L.A. Guns, And Brides Of Destruction. I Have To Say With Nikki Sixx Backing This Guy Up. There Was Nothing He Couldn't Do. Amazing Stage Presence And Creativity! A Big Fan Of Randy Rhoads and Others He Definatly Brought Honor To The Hard Rock/Metal Family. He Just Never Gets The Respect He Deserves! Good Luck Tracii!

4. Tony Iommi/Ace Frehley - Tony He Single Handedly Made Metal. He Started Everything And To This Day Is A Guitar God. He Proved Even An Injury Can't Stop Him From Being One Of The Best. Every Album He Has Done Is Worth Listening To. Tony Is One Of The Greatest And Truest Guitar Gods. And No One Can Deny That! He's Gone Through More Line Ups Than Blackmore But Hey His Albums Show His True Work. Tony You Are One Of The Best! Ace Frehley.. Woah I Mean Come On KISS, Frehley's Comet, His Solo Work. That Should Be Enough To Put Him As One Of The Best. Ace "The Spaceman" Frehley Is A Guitarist That Had Amazing Stage Presence And The Pride Of A True New Yorker. He's A Fun Guy Who Dealt With A Lot In KISS. But Was Always The Heart And Soul Of The Band. When You Think Of KISS. You Think Gene Simmons Or Paul Stanley. When I Think of KISS. I Think Ace. He Wrote Some Of The Best Songs And Definatly Made His Mark On The Guitar Life. Ace May Not Seem Like The Most Talented, But He Is Definatly More Raw And More Creative Than A Lot Out There.

5. Mick Mars - Mick.. Wow Loud, Rude, Aggressive. He Was Motley Crue He Made Them Heavy. He Made Them Who They Are. Mick Is A Guy Who Crafted So Many Amazing Songs And Solos With Nikki That They Just Had To Shoot To The Top Of Charts and They Just Had To Become Anthems. He's So Widely Talented With A Great Stage Persona And Great Skill. That He Has To Be Ignored. Well I For One Say He Is The Coolest Member Of Motley Crue Next To Nikki. Mick Mars Also Proved To Be Tough. Doing Extensive Touring With A Weak Spine. He Has Displayed Courage And Determination. I Leave With You With The Words Of Mick

"People Say Will He Make it...? Watch Me.." - Mick Mars
R.I.P Criss Oliva And Randy Rhoads.

Who? Brian May?
I've barely heard Brian use a wah pedal.

He was a pioneer in the echo/delay area though :)
Just listen to Brighton Rock :D

My favorites in no perticuliar order except for Rhoads.....

1) Randy Rhoads.....he is everything!!!!!!

2) Stevie Ray Vaughan......mister blues compassion to the balls!!

3) Dimebag.....heavy metal god with the most amazing riffs since Iommi

4) Cliff Burton....I know it's bass but,.......come on and bow down!!!!

5) Allen Collins....Lynyrd Skynyrd's guitar master behind atleast 80% of Skynyrd's classic riffs. He was the one how wrote and played the classic solo for Freebird.

1. Steve Vai: Probably, but without doubt for me, the most virtuoso guitar player ever!
2. Jason Becker: Ain't such a big fan of some of his recordings, but "Perspective" is one of the best albums I've ever heard.
3. Randy Rhoads: He doesn't need any introduction.
4. E.V.H.: Love his tapping.
5. John Petrucci: Again, one of the greatest musicians ever. Everyone MUST check out John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess - Unplugged.
