I just can't believe it..... Another icon (as Ronnie recently) I grew up with is gone now. :( I'm happy to see Gary once in concert when he became big with his first blues album. He had a great style and sound. Always lots of feel, great vibrato and tasteful. Never borring. You can pick Gary out of thousands. A unique style. It's a great loss for the (hard) rock world. RIP Gary....

Listen to this:
Shapes of Things - Live 1984
Gary Moore - Wishing Well - Live 1984

That whole concert Emerald Aisles is a must have!

Also listen to this: The Loner

One can here very good here where his infulence (Peter Green, Jeff Beck) came from.
Beautiful playing!

What about this one: The Loner

For me Gary Moore was an excellent all round player for his Blues Rock playing style. But if i had to pick a time when his playing was best. I'd say his early 80's line up when he had Ian Paice on drums Neil Murray on bass. The best performance i seen was when he played the Reading Rock festival in 1982. Ted Nugent's singer Charlie Huhn was chanting for the band. A Live soundboard bootleg from the show is available on torrent sites and its unbelievable... White Knuckles - Rockin N Rolling, I Can't Wait Until Tomorrow, Nuclear Attack, Parisienne Walkways. I think he was too wrapped up in is blues era to come back to the Rock audience. But surprisingly he did just that a couple of years back. Did anyone get to see him during this time ?.

Get your point Shaun, my favorite Gary is from the early eighties as well.
But even in his blues period he did amazing things live, check out this one:
GARY MOORE - The Messiah Will Come Again (Live At Montreux 1990)
That whole gig is on dvd and is really awesome!

A couple years ago he did return to the rock but I didn't like his sound that much. Probably because of the Marshall DSL amps he was using. (very preampy, missing all the dynamics he used to have) Recently he started using Marshall 1959HW amps and voila! his old sound was there!
I wonder if the Gary Moore signature amp he was developing with Marshall will still come out?

I actually just laughed out loud when that clip had finished. It was that good.

The ending part (8:55 and onward) is also some of the saddest tones I've ever heard.
Glad you like it Alex, so much feel there it's incredible, Gary on his best! 8)
He was using Soldano amps there, great tone there!
(the real dvd sounds much better than that youtube clip)

Pretty spooky.... the new issue of Guitar Techniques just arrived in the mail today... rip it open, and there's a CD featuring Gary Moore starring me in the face! It has "Out in the Fields" tabbed along with a backing track, which I think I will learn now in his honor! 8)

Just read a nice statement from Ozzy and Roger Taylor (Queen):

I see 'the Sun' put out that story to sell papers what a bunch of arseholes. It has been confirmed that he did have a heart attack. Another thing which i never knew or it could be misunderstood. The press said that Gary's girlfriend found him ?. I found this photo of Gary from 2007 and as far as i can see i think he was getting married ?.
