Ifirst heard of him when he played guitar on David Bowies 'Let's Dance' album and he sounds amazing on it. I missed seeing him play live back in 1990 and I remember a short time later when I heard the news of his death in an air crash, the news first broke here that it was Eric Clapton who had died as they were on tour together. I called a freind who was a huge Clapton fan and was devastated until the news channel revealed that it was Stevie who had died. I think its a little ironic that both he and Randy both died in tragic air crashes.
