For anyone who hasn't heard of Allan he is an English fusion Guitarist who both Steve Vai and Joe Satriani describe as a genius.
He doesn't write ear friendly music, hense he isn'y a house hold name like Clapton or Jimi Hendrix, he is though way out there!

EVH always named Allan as one of the best too.
One album of Allan Holdsworth I can recommend is "Metal fatique" some fantastic! solo work and the songs are ear friendly there. Saw him live a couple years ago and I was borred a bit, all kind of complex chords and weird melodies that went beyond me.

Hi Patrick
I think what I love about him is he takes the 'candy-ness' (my own word LOL) out of the Electric Guitar. He uses it as a completely serious instrument with Jazz/Classical out look. There is no bravado/tongue in cheek delivery though. Maybe too serious for some people.
The problem with this is, is that if this kind of ethos of a musician fails, it can appear boring/pretentious...
To me it breaks through this and touches on something very exciting
Robert Fripp and Frank Zappa to me belong to the same school of different/off the wall

Matt I think Allan is way ahead of simple people like me!
That second clip you posted is an intro of a song from the the "Metal Fatique" album. (I like those weird chords there) It's a bit hardrock metal fussion sounding with incredible fluid legato style of soloing with adventureous weird scales etc but still in context if you know what I mean. I can hear he influenced EVH with that too. Also if one has the patience to listen longer to his songs one will get more connection with his music that's for sure. It's good to check him out since he can show people new directions to go!

It is a shame Allan cannot reach a wider audience. Mind you great acknowledgements from giants like Eddie and also following your own destiny are all such great things!!
I salute you Mr Holdsworth!!
Your humble servant
Matt
