Such good tone, such a good voice. One in a million def.! Jeff Beck honestly doesn't compare.

I've always heard that Jeff Beck on a good day is as near perfection as a guitar player can get, yet on a bad day he's about the worst player on record. It always seemed to me that if you've got that much talent, then even on "bad" days you could just go on auto-pilot and coast.

I saw Jeff Beck a few years ago when he was touring with BB King. I remember I was pretty amped to see him because I remember Randy really liked him and I thought I was in for a big treat, you know?
He was awful.

I don't know if he was just playing crappily or if I just thought his style was crap to begin with. Either way, I didn't like him.

i feel an argument coming

only joking, everyones entitled to their own opinion.

i think you need to like a lot of fusion/jazz stuff to really like jeff, at first i wasnt too keen on him either but he grew on me. i've never heard the thing about him being either great or crap, but those opinions are probably cos he does quite a bit of outside playing. i've tried doing some jeff beck style improvisations before using similar ideas and it either sounds genius or awfull

you might prefer some of becks earlier work i.e. from the 60s

Well I must admit that I'm not a really big fan of "virtuoso" type guitarists. I mean, cause that's the kind of show he was putting on. I can understand that he's a great player and lots of people love him. But all I heard were really loud squeals and scales. I've not heard his stuff from the 60s though, I imagine I would like that more.

most of his stuff from the 60s has vocals, and its got a more bluesy/rock feel but still with all the contrasting hooks that make beck who he is.

are some of my favourites from this period, unfortunatley theres not much on you tube from this period but i think all shook up is on it somewhere.

you might also like beck, bogert, appice they only put out one studio album but its a heckuva good one, easily one of the best albums i own

I saw Jeff Beck at the LA Forum during the A.R.M.S. tour in '83 (google it). He's a monster whether playing Blues, Rock, or Jazz fusion. Definitely one of the greats.

Also, you can't beat 'Wired' and 'Blow by Blow' for great 70's fusion... IMO, they're 2 classics every serious guitar player should have in his/her collection.

really though he doesnt have any albums that aren't worth a listen
