Skynyrd!

I didn't see a thread for them, but they totally deserve one. They're seriously one of my favorite bands. I dig their guitar attack and Ronnie's soulful voice. My favorite songs right now are Double Trouble, Missippi Kid, and The Ballad of Curtis Loew.
Anyone else like them?

It's funny that you mention Skynyrd... On the way th ethe chiropracter I was listening to their first record with a bit of volume and I was thinking that if I could choose only one band to listen to, it'd be Skynyrd (up until '77)

, we have a vinyl for that in the cupboard. what an album though! awesome!

I'm with you 150% Skully. I LOVE SKYNYRD!! Actually Allen Collins is one of my heroes. GREAT guitarist and VERY underrated in my opinion.

Yeah, I love the Allen and Gary combo...they have so so so much groove. I just wish there was more on them.

I always felt that Randy was under appreciated. Then I got into Skynyrd. They're NEVER in guitar magazines. They're NEVER in Rolling Stone. You can't find any real concert footage from the 70s. You can't even find good posters of them that doesn't involve a naked woman or a Rattle Snake.

The guys who started Molly Hatchet are high on my list of guitar greats as well. Dave Hlubek is a great rock 'n' roll guitarist. Unfortunately no original members of Molly Hatchet are still in Molly Hatchet, yet the band goes on...

The Outlaws are another great band. I saw them open for Sabbath on the Mob Rules tour and they kicked ass!

I actually have that Skynyrd show on DVD. It came with some CD I bought...I actually only bought the CD because of the DVD it came with. It's awesome to watch. I love how different Southern Rock guitarists are from hard rock/heavy metal guitarists. Most heavy metallers are constantly thrashing, making faces, etc...
But Gary Rossington looks like he's about fall asleep any second.

I actually have yet to really discover Molly Hatchet.
Any idea as to what album I should start out with?

I'd recommend starting with Molly Hatchet which features songs like Bounty Hunter, Gator Country and a cover of the Allman Bros. Dreams I'll Never See.

Then Flirtin' With Disaster and No Guts No Glory.

Of course if you can find it somewhere like emule, Molly Hatchet Live at the Agora Ballroom is a great live recording of them. Like Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet were much better live.

I've been listening to Shooter Jennings' Put the O back in Country CD a lot lately. He's Waylon's kid and you can hear a lot of Waylon in his music.

Based on recent posts about Zakk and the rebel flag, do all these guys qualify to be counted as southerners, or, are they fakes as well

Well, the Skynyrd guys were from Jacksonville, Florida. I've been to Jacksonville before and I have to say that it's far more like Podunk, Georgia than Orlando. And Florida I do think was part of the Confederacy during the Civil War. So yes, I think so.
