Lastly, Warren DeMartini isn't a god? pft, At least he's got his own money and not living in his parents basement, unlike Vito Bratta.
Did I mention Yngwie in my post?

Warren was phenominal, but never reached guitar god status, that's why he isn't written about anymore. Vito could play circles around Vinnie. My point was that Vinne was equal to any number of '80's players.

So could everybody else since 1978.

This thread's supposed to be about Alexi Laiho. Let's stop with "Vito sucks, Vinnie" rules stuff. Obviously you have your favorites and I have different favorites.

Back to Mr. Laiho, if I wanted to hear something that sets him above the average, what would you suggest I listen to, Alex?

The album "Something Wild" is about as 'original' as they get. The rest gets pretty typical scandinavian melodic death metal, and as each album goes on, the band loses more and more of that originality. Their latest album (Are You Dead Yet) was almost Metalcore.

Deadnight Warrior
Bed of Razors
Touch Like Angel of Death
Warheart
The Nail
Lake Bodom
Silent Night, Bodom Night
Children of Bodom
Bastards of Bodom
Bodom After Midnight

These are the top ten songs I'd check out. Quite a lot of songs about Lake Bodom.

Agreed. The sweep solo that Alexi does is excellent. Too bad he can't play like that anymore.

I haven't seen him live, but from most accounts, I hear his sweeping is sloppy onstage. Most of his sweeps are the generic type nowadays, where as this sweep for deadnight warrior was a bit more creative.

I would man, but that guys fingers just move tooooooo fast for my eyes.

In all seriousness, Gamble is the KING of the sweep. He's like a barber, really. He makes sweeping look easy.

The kid is totally bad ass! A friend of mine played some of what he thought was CoB's tour de force pieces and I was very impressed. His picking is immaculate and he isn't afraid to go WAY HEAVY! His lead playing, to me, isn't as polished as his rythym technique, but so what.
Oh bring me some CHUNKY PUDDING, and bring it RIGHT NOW!!!

m'kay, i just gotta say it... some of you poeple seem to way over-analyze things seemingly more for "smartie pants" reasons then for what you actually like or dislike. Pull your heads out of your butts and try and have a real conversation that consists of mor than just rying to one up the next guy or show off what you THINK you know.

This is what ran me away from the Rhoads messages boards back in the late 90's early 2000's. Some topics seem more like competitions than discussions.

anyway... also... in *my* opinion Vinnie Vincet is CRAP. The Vinnie Vincent Invasion was a JOKE to me.

this is the part where i get banned, right?
