Yngwie Malmsteen's prefer VH over Randy

Yngwie, dude, appreciate your input, you have great technique, baroque influence, etc...Luv EVH as well, but main differences are the solo's in context with the songs...A lot of VH solo's are totally winged and they don't complement the songs, not all but most...RR solo's fit each song, whether you liked them or not, they are "part" of the song...
just my take..

Funny he wouldn't expound, only say, "Van Halen"... not really caring for Yngwie as a player, it's hard to care for his opinion, either... although, I agree, I kinda prefer Ed, too.

to each his own I think comes to mind. I saw Eddie 1st row directly in front of him on WCF and Fair Warning tour right after I saw Randy on the Diary tour and something about him made my jaw drop. Eddie didn't when I saw him. Take away the over used tapping and the Dorian scales and dive bombs, Randy had so much more. Same for the reaction when I heard the albums the 1st time. Same for Yngwie after 5 mins of listening you get burned out. My opinion that no one asked for

I think given the fact that yngwie was at the rock walk thing for randy tells me at least that he liked randy.....obviously he just got into VH more, nothing wrong with that
yng lose the burns man....looks stupid

I'm more surprised that Yngwie everywhere listened to any "modern" music besides Deep Purple
Re: Yngwie Malmsteen's prefer VH over Randy
that's the great thing about music, it's personal, your acquired taste....EVH, luv him, seen him so many times, crazy...Never saw Randy, but Randy is the one who inspired me to pick up a guitar...No brainer as far as I'm concerned....

ed was a spectacular showman live ....one thing that rr and evh share is that there is no good live video...how the fk does that happen?...vh were the absolute top shit in the early 80s and there are a ton of live clash, adam ant and police live video....fucking hell, wtf and crying in my beer.

Re: Yngwie Malmsteen's prefer VH over Randy
A little off topic, but this reminded me of a conversation I had at work the other day with one of the older guys... We were talking about the outrageous price for concerts and I mentioned my son wanting to go see Motley Crue but it's too expensive. I told him I saw Motley in '84 for something like $12, to which he replied that he remembered spending $6 to go see the Beatles in the '60'soth wrote:lucky you...man,i would have loved seeing wcf or fw tours....and you saw rr as well- all in such a short time period....hey by any chance did you get to see jimmy page, hendrix, joplin and the doors as well?

Re: Yngwie Malmsteen's prefer VH over Randy
Well, here is the thing, Randy, and what he did on the guitar made me want to play. I dare say I felt a compulsion to do so. Ed on the other hand did not.
Ed is a great guitar player and a pioneer for sure and I have a lot of respect for him. I know Ed has influenced a lot of people to play guitar. I guess it is just what ever floats your boat. I really like both guitar players though and I have learned a lot from both.
