Personally I'll have to think about it, since most of what I like and listen to is from the last millennium, I'm not sure which would be the best solo (or even the top 20 for that matter).

I dont think soloing has outplayed itself.Soloing in rock is a lost art.I think the imagination or inspiration or talent has just vaporized.
I ll never get bored by an amazing solo/lead playing.Its hard for me to enjoy ANY hard rock/metal song that doesnt have a good solo.
Without a solo a hard rock song is like salad without the dressing.

I cant think of any solos from the 90s or 00's.My music taste runs mostly from 1964-1984.

I'm going to think about this for awhile, but much like oth- my preference is from 62-83-ish, however- there is a lot of talent on either end of those years... I just have to remember it:)

I'd say my favorite stuff post-2000 would be the new Slash record, but I also dig Orianthi's stuff and Gretchen Menn...

Still, 'greatest'? I don't know yet.

I am not sure what the best solo is. I like the solo from Junkie. I think that album came out in 2001, the Down to Earth album.
Well, I still am not sure. Nothing really strikes me as "wow". Almost all of the chops and licks I have learned have come from the 70's 80's and early 90's.

I think to my self, what was the newest material I have tried to learn. The newest was from Metallica's Death Magnetic. "All Nightmare Long". The last song I learned was Cacophony's "Concerto".


I just realized that Pantera's "Revolution" came out in 2000. I like the solo on that song quite a bit. Of course I like that song in general quite a bit.

Genius!!! Say what you want about the guy with the bucket on his head... but he's without a doubt one of the greatest players ever.
