I'm watching the news of this 2 hours after a 8.9 quake has hit Japan... God bless the people of this country. My prayers are with them.

This is the most unbelievable destruction I've ever seen.

1) Tsunami Travel Times

2) Whirlpool created by Tsunami off the coast north of Tokyo which is about to swallow a boat.

3) It's not every day you get a tsunami alert on Google...

4) This is a boat traveling through a pasture towards an interstate. OMG!!

I found it so upsetting and disturbing, what brought the fear and mysery home to me was watching cars trying to out run the water just getting swamped! I can only imagine what was going through their minds as this was happening.

So very very sad.

I feel for those poor people. I am completely shocked, was on youtube and saw the update there and then turned on my local news.

North of me is under Tsunami warning while my local area is currently under Tsunami advisory/watch. Beaches are shut down up and down the coast.

I am worried for my friends and my friends family in Hawaii.

My thoughts are with all those affected in Japan.

The real sad thing for me is that earthquakes are a fact of life over there. You never know when one can strike and you have to rebuild all over again.

We are lucky that in the UK natural disasters are basically non-existent.

The human tragedy seems fairly minimal so far, considering the size of the event, though I've no doubt the death count will rise...

On top of the quake damage and tsunami damage, now they are talking about the possibility of a nuclear plant meltdown. Truly an incredible, historic event is happening.

It's bad.... I couldn't stop watching. I heard there was an uncontrolable blaze headed towards a packed elementary school

Poor japanese people..... And lets hope they keep that nuclear plant in control, a couple hours ago an explosion was reported, just saw it and it was not a small explosion..... (to me then)

Agreed. Japan might be the most prepared and advanced country in the world.

Unlike this country, where the republicans are demanding that tsunami and earthquake preparedness programs be cut.If there is a meltdown you will see oil soar in price...this will be bad news for the future of nukes.

What's also refreshing about the situation in Japan is that no one is blaming anyone else for this misfortune. They are rescuing people, clothing people, feeding people...they aren't getting on any politicians ass over what has happened. Help now, point fingers, if ever, later.

What's refreshing to me is that I haven't seen one case of looting... remember Katrina? "Hey look, let's go take anything that's not nailed down!"
