I have always thought the song fills and solo from Arizona by the Scorpions (1982 Blackout Album) was very much inspired by Randy. It has his signature climbs and playfulness that makes you smile after you learn how to play it.

The guitar playing on Queen's song Mustaphar from the Jazz album always blows me away. Stay with it, it is not excessive and flashy but just great in it's quality and as the piece goes on it, the way it builds up.

here's something a little absurd, but entertaining nonetheless!
cacophony! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vS5R9vY- ... re=related
this band had Marty Friedman and Jason Becker in it and did two albums with shrapnel around 88-89.... Jason was only 16 or 17 years old when they recorded this song! Its ridiculous, but kind of fun. You can tell them apart by Jason's tone. He's got the kind of squawky single coil lead tone.

The solo in "25 or 6 to 4" by Chicago, Peter Frampton's outro on "Do you feel like we do" the live one of course. Queen's "Dragon Attack" and "Sail Away Sweet Sister". All great rock solos
Oh bring me some CHUNKY PUDDING, and bring it RIGHT NOW!!!
Re: Powerful Rock Solos
That never occurred to me before, but now that you mention it, Matthias' playing style in general may very well of had some influence... they both have a very similar approach to slipping in all those little lead fills throughout the songs in a way I hadn't noticed anyone else doing, up until then anyway. It's certainly a nice thought anyway, as he's always been one of my favorite guitarists, while being one of the most underrated I think.RR-ElectricAngel wrote:I have always thought the song fills and solo from Arizona by the Scorpions (1982 Blackout Album) was very much inspired by Randy. A 'powerful solo' that comes to mind is Iron Maiden's "Prodigal Son":
