Like Ted says, faith aside, the vast majority of non secular academics are all in agreement that the Jesus of the Bible existed. Even Richard Dawkins agrees on that one! It is perhaps one of the few Biblical things he does agree on too ;) :) :)

I would say yes, the Bible does have many contradictions from gospel to gospel; ranging from Jesus' birth, to his life and eventual death on the cross, but there are also many places, customs of the time, archaeological finds etc that the Bible supports!

When I read the popular modern view and one held by some other faiths too, saying he didn't die on the cross etc one thing I find fascinating is that the soldier to check Jesus was dead, poked him in the side with his spear - and water and blood came out. We know now that this is indicative that someone is dead, then that wasn't known a tall then.

I came across this today and thought I'd take y'all slightly off topic for a moment:

There are three religious truths:
a. Jews do not recognize Jesus as the Messiah.
b. Protestants do not recognize the Pope as the leader of the Christian faith.
c. Baptists do not recognize each other in the liquor store or at Hooters.

No offense intended towards Baptisits, I just read it and laughed, so I thought I'd share.

I was listening to an interview this week on the radio where a well known sports pundit was talking about how he attended a goup who helped people to combat gambling adictions, he said he attended for about three months but decided to quit the group after he caught the bus outside the office with the group leader folowing his sesion, he said that they both got off the bus outside the dog racing track and both went in and placed bets before getting back on the same bus!!!!

I have re read the thread a couple of times and also some of the other threads buried in URs past about some of the shinanigans over this thread :D A lot of it is actually bloody hilarious to read now  But on the serious side it was - and is - a great thread! It actually shows too quite a lot too about human nature i.e how different people react to difficult questions.

Dr Laura Schlesinger, a Jewish talk show radio host was saying the passage in Leviticus, that outlaws homesexuality, ends the discussion whether it is to be tolerated or not - as God said it wasn't to be - and that is that! ;) This link is a reply from a lady who wrote into the show - it is well informed, funny and also very well argued - enjoy :)

I have so much trouble accepting religions views on homosexuality, I think society seems to have moved much further than religion when it comes to same sex relationships. I find some religions oppinions embarrasing and humiliating.
