So, 4 years ago I asked what UR members from outside the USA thought of our electing Donald Trump as he was coming into power.

Now that he's on his way out, especially with the event on Wednesday, I'm curious what you might be thinking.

Not looking for political comments from American citizens, just the point of view from those not involved.

Everyone in Germany in 1944 had Hitler running the show.. History can repeat itself and some guys would do the power trip as a president of a country with such power, the world is your oyster. Ronald Reagan was one president that people didn't take serious but did he do a shit job ?. JFK was probably one of the best presidents IMHO but someone wanted him dead. Conspiracy or not he was well liked amongst the people of America. Can a president hold onto his promises to make a country better or is that just a pipe dream to get votes. Even if the ballet was rigged, i couldn't see him being in his position much longer. Shit who would of thought the USA would ever have a black president but it happened.

I honestly never thought Trump would be elected, and when he was I thought he'd just do a forgettable job and then we'd move on.

Never in a million years did I think he'd have such ardent followers.

Paul, I think it's clear now that the political system of only having 2 parties (democrats/republicans) can be very risky when one of the two is highly unstable. Too many people in the Republican party do not have the courage to do the right thing now. I see a great lack of integrity there. Your country is now risking a civil war because of that. When you have more (than 2) parties which have to work together the politic is more mellowed out and creates less division. And you won't have that big of a problem when trouble occurs in one of the joining parties as there is now in your country. I wish Joe Biden all the best for his almost impossible task to unite the country again. Although he is old he comes over to me as the right guy for the job right now. BUT he needs to deliver as quick as possible to get the other half convinced......!

Gotta say Dutch, we definitely have a party with some instability!

Rumor has it that tomorrow (1/17) all 50 state capitals will be attacked... I live 20 minutes south of the Washington State capital so I'm hoping the rumors are wrong!

I am a bit late to this topic but I feel my comments can still fit into the topic even a few weeks on.

Clearly Trump gave hope to some but from here he seems to have been insincere, and attached himself to things to try to garner support. I.e. Christianit, pretending he was pius and so pransparently being nothing of the sort. Encouraging right wing fring movements and racist organisations knowing full well they would mobilise because they had been anti establishment for decades. And as a historical overview we can see how the types of behaviour worked so well as Europe said fascists gained power.
I don't think he did anything that benefitted America and I can't see that the nation came out of his era any better off. He wasn't a great thinker and I am not sure he did anything internationally that furthered the nations standing globally. Pulling out of the Iran deal was childish and short sighted and the Aran states that signed 'Peace' deals with Israel were not at war with Israel anyway and did so either for money or access to American weapons. North and South Korea are no nearer to cordiality and are again weapons testing.

I don't think the election was rigged but if you disliked Trimp you had only one choice, I thought Biden was a crap alternative to Trump and at best it seemed like a choice of picking your favourite child sex offender! Not suggesting either is but the choice was rubbish. But Trump loyalists will believe it was rigged because they on one hand want to hate government and politicians, on the other they justncant see how useless and decisive he was so it's a perfect storm for them. And Trump will play up to it because for them they can't comprehend that he was useless.
