God does not deal in mysteries he deals in absolutes, what we think is mystery is just a lack of understanding on our part. just like a child the only way to learn is to question. The apostle Paul taught to question everything.

When my son approches me with a problem, i will help him. But he doesn't approach me with every problem some things he learns for himself.

Why is it so bad that I and many others desire to fathom these deep questions?
Yo Skippy,

I never said it was bad for you to fathom these deep questions! I could not care less what you fathom, be it Jesus or Tom Thumb. I simply stated my belief and that Faith is all I need! If you do not agree, thats your deal brother. I go to Church and pray. Prayer is my daily bread. If you want to question why we are here, go right ahead. Have a fucking blast!!!!! I know why I am here. I see my children, and know why I am here. I see my wife, and know why I am here. I see my sisters, and know why I am here. I see my friends, and know why I am here. I listen to music, and know why I am here. My parents, God rest their souls, raised a good Catholic boy. It is simple really.

ROCK ON!!!!
Skippy?

Who the fuck are you to start in on the attacks. I have done nothing but engage in civil conversation, and now I'm Skippy?

I go to church every sunday as well. I pray every day just like you. I have a wife and two kids which I love dearly. I work, pay taxes, and all that bull shit. So keep your pie hole closed.

Apparently you do have a problem with me asking these questions otherwise you would not be getting so defensive over it.

So I have a great idea. Don't read my fucking post if you're going to get your panties in a ruffle. My questions are not asked nor posted for the likes of you. So do us all a favor and butt out!

I have faith as well, which is WHY i ask, which is WHY I search. If that offends you in some way kiss my hairy ass.

You opposition to my remarks are heavily implied by the tone set in your posts so FUCK YOU!

God Bless,
Logan
Sorry to offend. That is just how I talk. Ask Matthew. If I offended you that is too bad. Enjoy the rest of the forum. Life is hard enough to be offensive. Skippy was not meant to be offensive. Again it is too bad it came across that way. I am not being Defensive. Well, Take it for what its worth. Not a big deal.

That's great. "I'm sorry to offend" then in the next breath "If I offended you too bad."

Whatever. I don't care either way.

WOW! I meant it was too bad that it was offensive. Meaning it is a bad thing you thought that. I sincerely hope you have a nice Thanksgiving.

Logan wrote:Pau`l you have still yet to answer my question. Why are we here?
I did answer that, didn't I? I believe we are here simply because God wanted to.

" Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.

God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

- Genesis 1:26-28

As for the apostle Paul, can you show me scripture where he taught us to question everything? I believe that Paul was a great man, but surely he never taught anyone to question the word of God.

I am not Logan obviously, but I can answer your question Paul!

It is only too general and too convenient if you don't want to accept it. For me, it is enough. God wanted to create us, so He did. Why must there be a purpose?
I was speaking to my mom about the meaning of humans being created, etc, cause I wanted to Buddhist angle on these matters. Her answer was "That is not the correct question to be asked." Thanks, Mom! I suppose Buddhism is not so metaphysical. Apparently where humans came from/how humans evolved is irrelevant to them as well as Paul. I suppose I am on that side as well, but more out of exasperation of knowing that we'll never...you know, know.

I make no sense, I apologize!

I find a lot of Eastern religions answer questions with questions and tend to be evasive.

I think Carl Sagan the scientist, and I would say philosopher, had a great point when he asked who is the most humble?, who has the most humilty?...the person who says he doesn't know everything, and is prepared to question, or the person who has an answer for everything.

Logan, I think maybe the old internet not being good at giving and receiving emotions is the case with Zakk Wylde.

yes he is insane :) (but then who isn't at UR it is a pre-requisite!) but he is a good man and may have come across wrongly.

Paul,

I think for your personality you have found a belief system that suits you. I mean that straight down the line sincerely too. I can see why you would be non trusting of much eastern thought...

lastly if everyone hasn't fallen alsleep LOL

This is a debate. The nature of a debate is for lots of different ideas to be thrown around. No one is 100 percent right either.

Logan that is pure Horse (an alter ego me and Logan have)
"I love you forgive me...DAMN YOU" (followed by a physcial assault!!)

Me and Craig have a rule that we try and sort any differences out by messaging and asking if everything is okay. Me and Craig see things differently but are still buddies :)

I think you need to give each other a huge manly hug (Logan don't squeeze too hard!)

I LOVE YOU ALL!!!!

1st Thessalonians 5:19-22 -

"Do not put out the Spirit's fire; do not treat prophecies with contempt. Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil.

In context, Paul is telling the people of Thessalonica to test the words of the prophets who come to teach them. He is warning them that there will be people who will speak to them as if they are sent by God, but in reality they are not from God. The Pharisees in Jerusalem are good examples of such people. They believed in God, but were also very determined to keep themselves in power and banish the followers of Jesus.

I believe Paul was saying question what you hear and use the scriptures as the measuring stick to determine the validity of what you hear.

Interestingly, 1st Thessalonians 5:15 addresses the question earlier:

1st Thessalonians 5:15

"Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else.

I think that rather than a debate where different sides are arguing their reasoning in an attempt to sway opinion, this is more of a discussion where we are all presenting our beliefs in an effort to understand one another better.

+1.............. I see this as a way of sharing our inner beliefs even if like me they are based on atheism and Socialy based politics. 8) I love how this sharing is panning out.

I really think some people may have seen all this as disrespectful but look at the way it has developed it is a credit to our mutual friendship. :D

I don't know the bible that I quote it without it in front of me, but I have read it a good seven or eight times now.

There is a lot of it, like the above quote, which Christians and academics don't have an absolute agreement on it's actual meaning....let alone un bible schooled me :)

A friend of Suzie and mine who was training to be a curate, read the old and new testament in their original language (he was also a clever bastard LOL) and it opened a can of worms for him in many areas.

Ugggh sorry to trespass on the dreaded but fun Da Vinci Code, but a word that was is commonly know as 'whore' or prostitute in the bible he said translated as woman.

A mis translation like that not only shows a possible agenda behind the people we have trusted in the past to translate, but also a much different way of viewing the events.

In previous discussions Paul Wolfe and me differ on this. My opinion is in not just the bible, but ALL holy books, the intervention of man means that the work in it's entirety, in being literal and all valid is not reliable.

But then I do not have 'faith' any holy books are straight from the source.

That is a good word. Go the source rather than relying on others all the time. I agree with you ther Logan. I think we have not only many of the answers already but also the ability to achieve what we want.

In my opinion prayers are words to say thanks, not to misguidedly think you can twist God's arm into having things your way with your finite human understanding.
