Re: Is this a REAL Randy Rhoads Guitar Pick and Business Car

Post by GUITARIDOL5682 »

We've discussed the picks Randy used on here in different threads etc. His choice of pick was the Fender Medium i've seen photos of his picks on mic stands and one's stuck up on his 4X12 cabs and they have been tortoise shell in colour, black & white types. But as far as i know he never had a signature pick made for him. I'll post up the thread when i find it. This looks like a promo pick which could of been made for a radio station that looks like a radio frequency. Is this up on an auction site ?. The business cards have been giving out after Randy's death at the cemetry on his anniversary gatherings. Those types are a little different and they don't show the number on the right of the card. This is an item anyone could make i think the 'Flying Dutchman' Pat posted a close up scan of the one's Randy did hand out to his students etc. (Seen below) Which are the same as this one here. My guess is that its a bullshit story and both are not connected to RR in anyway.

Does it have any wear on the pick ?. I wonder if Randy was a stickler to use this type only. As i have seen odd picks amongst his on mic stands and the only explanation would be Rudy Sarzo's or a free one for the crowd ?.

I found this photograph, i don't think it is the pic zoomed in but somone is suggeting that he used thumb picks...I know he didn't use these for picking during his classical guitar practice so i'd find it strange for him to use these on his electric guitars ?.

That is simply an ad insinuating that Randy used their product. I don't believe he ever used that pick just as he was never on the cover of Rolling Stone and didn't use the pick of destiny to become a guitar idol.

I must've been drunk last night... of course he used the pick of destiny! Do not make a sound unless it's a masterpiece. Not a fuckin' sound.

It doesnt matter, its still a guitar pick, I have seen some of his picks, they were thrashed, those old brown picks used to scratch huge grooves in them when you did dives, after about a month, it would crack and break and hit the trash can, my pick was always falling in the hole of my acoustic, then id turn it, and shake it out, then Id lose the rest around the house, I called the guitar pick twilight zone, anyway they came out with fast fret and tortex picks, and the rest is history.

I noticed this one has turned up on ebay again. I laugh how the seller says he cannot prove this to be Randy's pick but it has his name all over it. I know Randy was never issued with a signature pick and he was happy with his generic Fender Medium picks. I can imagine this pick will sell for a lot of money and to be honest i don't even think it is from the 80's. Famous bands didn't use signature picks and only a few bands i can remember who did are KISS Cheap Trick, Van Halen, BOC, Ted Nugent those are just a few of the early bands who's picks i have seen from that time. All the other bands from the late 70's early 80's used standard generic picks. It wasn't until later when picks became more sort after from the fans and bands like Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Metallica, Ozzy, Black Sabbath etc started to get batches made up to throw out to the fans.
