PILOT/OPERATOR AIRCRAFT ACCIDENT REPORT
Data field #18 (Narrative)
18 - Narrative

This occurrence involved personnel associated with Ozzy Osbourne’s rock band that had traveled in their bus from Knoxville, TN to Leesburg, FL on the night preceding the accident. The pilot was employed as the driver of the bus and the group had arrived at the Flying Baron Estates private airport at Leesburg at about 9:00 e.s.t. Prior to the fatal flight, he completed a short flight with 2 members of the group aboard during which he made several low passes over the area. After taking off again with 2 other members of the group aboard, he made more low passes. The group’s bus was parked in front of a Georgian type mansion adjacent to the airstrip and on the final low pass the left wing collided with the bus. The bulk of the aircraft crossed over the bus and severed a large pine tree before crashing through the roof of the garage on the west end of the mansion. The 3 occupants sustained fatal injuries and the aircraft was destroyed. There were no injuries to persons on the ground but 2 automobiles in the garage were destroyed and the mansion was extensively damaged when the post crash fire spread to the main part of the structure. The weather was VFR and not a factor in the accident. The pilot possessed an expired second class medical certificate dated 11.16.79. His private pilot airman certificate, that was not valid without a current medical certificate, showed ratings in airplanes single and multi engine land, instruments airplanes and helicopters. The owner of the aircraft reported that the plane was flown without proper authority.
